Traveling somewhere new. I feel so alive. I loved the time I spent in Turkey. It didn't matter what I did for a living, what groups I belonged to or my relationship with friends and family. I was only Deborah. I was measured by my heart. It was a great challenge. I ended up lost in Asia, missing a flight in Cappadocia and almost accidentally married in Istanbul! I made friends for life and redefined how I saw myself. My favourite memory, was walking down a street and seeing this woman. She was small, in a traditional raincoat and headscarf. She was carrying packaged tied with string. She looked straight at me. She came up, put down her load, and put her hand on my face. She said "Tatlim", which means sweet. She picked up her boxes and walked on. It was one of the most powerful moments of my life. I will always be grateful for that encounter.
