What is true biblical peacemaking? How do we practice this principle set forth in Romans 12:18 ( NIV ): "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."?

The Bible is quite clear in that Christians should live at peace with others.

However we should notice two things in this verse: (1) if it is possible -- which means peace is hard to come by and (2) as far as it depends on you -- which means that it is not altogether in your control.

In any event the answer is also found in the same passage:

1. DON'T TRY TO AVENGE YOURSELF
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

2. DO GOOD TO YOUR PERSONAL ENEMIES
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

3. DON'T ALLOW EVIL TO OVERCOME GOOD
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

Hi Cherie, here is one of my very favorite sermons. It's by Dr. John MacArthur, and it just happens to be on Matthew 5:9 about the Lord's, "peacemakers".

You can read it and/or listen to it here for free: https://www.gty.org/library/sermons-library/2204/happy-are-the-peacemakers

Enjoy :)

God bless you!

Psalm 85
10 Lovingkindness and truth have met together;
Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

There is also resolving conflicts biblically which epukd lead to living at peace with each other. Matthew 18 shows this process..

In the case of a church group...

1 bring the matter to the person sinning one to one

2 if they won't hear... bring one or two extra to witness

3 if they still won't hear ... tell it to the church

4 if they still won't hear.. then they are removed from being a church member

I have barely ever seen this process in action but there is the process in the NT
