Can I just focus on NT and gospels?

They are quite fascinating :D I love much of Genesis, and never tire of the telling of Abraham and Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah, Esau, Jacob, Rachel, Leah, and all the sons up to and including Joseph and Benjamin, the brothers' jealousy of Joseph, selling him into slavery, his becoming a powerful man in Egypt after thirteen years of wrongful imprisonment... it is how the Hebrew nation ended up in Egypt needing a deliverer, and Moses is raised up for that purpose. Bob and I are in 2nd Samuel now, and all those stories, as well as Judges and Ruth, are pretty interesting, too. I look forward to reading more! We are reading through Isaiah at the same time, and the NT as well, where we have just started Philippians :)

If we were all the same what a boring world this would be. :)
i respect our differences on this.
i dont feel drawn to read those stories again unless they are used to make some point in either NT or a general Christian theme.

Why ?
Have you gotten every single ounce of knowledge from these books ?
All sarcasm aside. I read the OT once or twice each year, twice on even years once on odd years .
Each time I read through I literally fill a 200 page notebook with notes . All of scripture is a treasure.
Friends ask me about Jesus I start at Genesis then march forward .
Note also in the NT scripture reading is considered important.

So what do we do with this
1st Timothy 4:13 Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching.
Scripture at this time was mostly O.T.
Or this

2nd Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
It dose say all of scripture dose it not ?
Also in Acts 17:10 The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
What scriptures did they examine? It’s the OT .
The Bible is God’s Word He has given it to us . In my opinion none of it is to be neglected.
We are to be grateful an not waste a opportunity to read an put to use all of it !

Perhaps if you had a reading partner it would be easier or more interesting? As a new Christian 15 years ago, I read through much of it alone at some point... a few years ago, over a number of years, I was involved in a critical analysis Bible study group, where we read some OT and some NT most weeks. We had very lively discussions around the text and relevant current social issues, and was quite enjoyable also because we each read from different versions/translations, and compared differences in the texts. Our study leader would consult the Greek and Hebrew texts at times to settle an issue. All in all it was a valuable experience :) I do prefer the way Bob and I are reading together, though, for it does not jump around from book to book or follow any church liturgical calendar.

How would you understand the greatness of the finished work of Christ without revisiting Leviticus several times?

BTW Bible study was never meant to be easy. Neither is anything else that is worthwhile.

I’ve just learned that the word “Holy” is written 77 times more in the book of Leviticus than any other book in the Bible, fascinating

But dont some Christians just focus on NT? That sounds wise to me. Well you might say NT cant be fully understood without knowledge of OT. But I will leave that up to the experts. Then i can read their commentaries. I just want to grasp the main themes of John for example. And of course. St. Paul. A more holistic approach than a detailed one.

NO, NO, NO......in the VOLUME OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME.....Jesus is found WOVEN FROM FRONT TO BACK......Search the scriptures, for they are they which testify of ME <--WHEN Jesus said this, the N.T. had not been written as of yet and he is REFERENCING THE O.T.

The best and strongest message I got from the OT is...…."steadfast"
"steadfast love".
God was capable of it throughout the OT and the Israelites were nowhere near it.
What a word! My favourite word in the whole Bible.

And that is why we have this quotation from Leviticus in 1 Peter:

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. (1 Peter 1:15,16)

For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. (Lev 11:44,45)

Creeping things represent Satan (that Great Serpent) and all his minions. Egypt represents the world and all its wickedness. From which Christians have been redeemed.
