The Millstone

Inspired 1999

LadyBeatnik

She found herself braving the cliff, life unfair,

The ocean below and forever out there,

A hot, windy day having no rest, but glare.

The high-noon day sun was now swelling her brain;

The Millstone’s strong ropes swaying, wrenching the chain.

She wavered off balance and looked out to sea.

The earth’s softly rounded horizon would be

Where, with no fixed gaze, you’d be easily free

To shatter like glass and to die on the shore.

The Millstone’s wide ropes were now pulling some more.

Her fingertips questioned north, south, east and west;

“What shall I do now!?” was her skyward request.

The Wind swept her back from the edge of death’s “rest.”

“Forgive me, O God, I’m ashamed and alone!”

His Breath crumbled ropes where they held to the stone.

“Please, LORD, set me free on this cliff here today!”

The chain ‘round her soul fin’ly broke, fell away.

God’s Hand held the Millstone; He cast it away

And said, “You’re not alone and there is no more shame.

Now remain in My Love and remember My Name.”

Lovely poem, but it's better suited for the Poetry forum, not the Introductions forum.. :)
