If our pollution levels don't change, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish

THE NEW PLASTICS ECONOMY PROJECT MAINSTREAM
This report was written under the umbrella of Project MainStream, a multi-industry, global initiative launched in 2014 by the World Economic Forum and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, with McKinsey & Company as knowledge partner. MainStream is led by the chief executive officers of nine global companies: Averda, BT, Desso BV (a Tarkett company), Royal DSM, Ecolab, Indorama, Philips, SUEZ and Veolia.MainStream aims to accelerate business-driven innovations and help scale the circular economy. It focuses on systemic stalemates in global material flows that are too big or too complex for an individual business, city or government to overcome alone, as well as on enablers of the circular economy such as digital technologies .

Ellen MacArthur Foundation PDF

Posted as an FYI for those who may be interested.

The Book of Genesis chapter 1:20 And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds[g] fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” 21 So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

I can guarantee you that America and many of its allies are at the lowest on the pollution charts. So the question becomes how do we force all the other countries to abide?

"More" is a very um... fishy... term. More by volume, mass, distinct part count?

Also, it can't go on forever. Plastics are made from oil, and we keep yelling about it running out soon.

Also, who got that shot of the sea turtle? I have difficulty believing somebody just happened to see a sea turtle dragging that mess and took a shot from that specific angle.

Oil isnt running out for a very very long time. The only problem is reaching it. Many countries around the world have oil but it is more expensive to drill. While the middle east is easy drilling and easier to just buy from. For example America could be self sustaining in oil and a large quantity of oil that isn't being drilled due to cost and environmental regulations that restricted drilling.

So there is a very good reason to stop buying foreign oil. The producers are not processing or drilling up to acceptable environmental standards. We must bread the addiction cycle to petroleum.

Isaiah 24:5The earth is defiled by its people; they have transgressed the laws; they have overstepped the decrees and broken the everlasting covenant. 6Therefore a curse has consumed the earth, and its inhabitants must bear the guilt; the earth’s dwellers have been burned, and only a few survive.

Marco Care of Greenpeace has his name on the copyrighted image.

Greenpeace, founded in Canada in 1971, is the most visible non-governmental environmental organization in the world.

They make it their business to take pictures like that ;)

The hope being to raise awareness of what human actions have on
the ecosystem and other life forms with whom we share this planet :)

I will tell you that crude oil is not running out. America now, under Trump, can sustain our own nation with our own oil supply.

Yes that was what we was hoping but the environmentalists see it as a threat to life and the planet.

A self sustaining energy producing country is obviously a great place to be. Creating a less volatile environment for our economy every time a oil situation arises in the middle east our markets go crazy and the price per barrel rises. Or if we experience damage to some of the few oil drilling locations like by a hurricane then our prices go up.

And we all know most everything gets to our stores by either truck or plane. The money we would save and less occupation in the middle east.

Alternative energy is being invented and tested but we are still so many decades or century away from making it economically efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe. So in the mean time we need to do what's best for OUR country and continually work toward better alternatives that can make our country even more productive and powerful.

There are environmentalists that are extremist, as we know is likely to be found in any movement.
Many false claims have come down the pike since environmentalism has become a $green movement. "Clean Coal", for example.
Hybrid cars, as another.
Crude plays a pivotal role in global societies. It isn't just oil, gas.
As does natural gas, which is often touted as an "alternative" to crude oil, save for natural gas is related to petroleum. Same with propane, which is a product of natural gas.

About 11 months or so ago, Speaker Pelosi repeated something she'd said ten years prior concerning natural gas. She supports advances in natural gas as a clean alternative to fossil fuels.
Seriously, she said that.
Interestingly enough, her son Paul, is now in the Ukraine scandal that had previously opened up implicating then VP Joe Biden and his son Hunter in shenanigans in the Ukraine. Turns out Nancy's son was allegedly an oil company exec that had ties also in the Ukraine.
That just makes her comment this year and in 2009 even more odd.
