And Where The Spirit Of The Lord Is
There Is Freedom,

So Paul is explaining to his followers that the covenant
of the law has passed away, and the new covenant of
the Spirit is ushered in. So we are now, not to observe
the old law since the old law was our guardian until the
covenant of Christ began. Now grace is our guide and
Christ is our new beginning. In another place, Paul says
"Christ if of no value to those who observe the old law."
So this was the theme with much of what Paul wrote and
argued with Peter about. There was a long contention
between the two of them. Peter opined that to become a
Christian, you first need to be circumcised while Paul was
strongly trying to convince all that circumcision, which is
a sign of observance of the old law, is not not necessary
to be a follower of Christ. Often people get annoyed at
this and feel they should still observe the old law. But as
we grow in Christianity, we truly begin to understand how
much higher grace is as compared to the law. As Paul
says, the Spirit of the Lord sets us free.
