Hey Brother TLC209, i watched the video, its good........... but it also has flaws in it, these flaws are important, even if the video is great and Godly.

I will explain my case, so listen closely and i hope this will further your understanding of repentance and faith.

Like i said the video is decent, its Godly......... yet it has errors in it.

Error #1: is at 15 seconds in the video where he says "repentance is not an emotion" is that true? No, because repentance has an emotional element to it, according to scripture.

2nd Corinthians 7:10 For godly grief/sorrow produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.

Mark 1:5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins.

So you see here, there is emotions are involved!

Also do you think when the people are repenting of their sin in Mark 1:5 that their hearts weren't moved with Godly Sorrow? No!!! Because this is what repentance is, the heart is pierced by God and they turn from Sin.

HUMAN emotions/affections are involved in repentance, 1st FIRST ERROR of the video.

Now....... is the will involved in repentance?.... Btw Derek Prince makes a great point here and the answer is correct!
The WILL IS ALWAYS INVOLVED IN REPENTANCE, just being clear on this great point.

Check out the next verse in 2nd Corinthians:
2nd Corinthians 7:11 For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.

The Corinthians Hearts were moved, which means that their minds were moved, their affections/emotions were moved AND last but not least.... their wills were moved, they repented.

So Repentance is when someone does a 180 and there whole being is involved (mind, affections and will).

2nd ERROR of the VIDEO (this one is way more important):

He says somewhere in the middle of the video, that repentance precedes faith, this is not true, they occur at the same time in biblical thought.

Mark 1:15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
He uses this verse to justify some type of order, yet the verse says Repent and Believe, you could just aswell switch it around and say Believe and Repent.

There is no order! they occur at the same time!

In John 3:16.......... it doesn't say repent does it? you know why?....... because believing and repentance go together in the bible, that verse above is not talking about AN ORDER! (Mark 1:15), it's putting them on the exact same level.

For example you could read John 3:16 like this and it would be true:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes/repents to God through him should not perish but have eternal life."

When someone makes an order out of repentance and faith, they usually are distorting the gospel, because we turn from our sin as we are simultaneously trusting in Christ Alone, a person never repents first and then trusts in Christ, they happen together.

There is no contradiction, lets not turn them into one, anyway hope that helps.

Heres a good sermon you might be interested in:
Point 1 that you made is true. I agree with you. Although I think the point he was making is that an emotional response by itself is not enough. It requires the second part which is to turn from sin. I agree though. And to add I enjoyed the scripture you used! That helps me sooo much! I will definitely use that verse in the future. That verse Paul was correcting that church. And even though he was sorry or sorrowful at first for sending the harsh words, it lead to repentance and that was well worth it.

2 Corinthians 7:8 I am not sorry that I sent that severe letter to you, though I was sorry at first, for I know it was painful to you for a little while. 9 Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants his people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way. 10 For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.

Great find. Alligns with how I feel about using harsh words like reprobate when someone is far from the truth. You are different Flint. I digress from calling YOU a reprobate. You have stayed with scripture rather than deviate to critisism and offenses.

Point 2 that you made I agree as well. Belief and repentence happen simultaniously. Its the gospel and Christ that cause the repentance. So you believe and feel repentance at the same time. Its like a shock to your heart and it bring you to your knees. I agree with you there as well.

The point of the video I am sure you can agree not everyone has truly repented and turned to God. Like the verse in Acts 20 that you shared requires they we turn from darkness to light. That requires a change in our will. From self to God. Forsaking our own will and our own selfish desires, and turning to God to do His will and His desires for our lives. Merely believing has to have repentance. This leads to faith..

I will check your video now and get back to you. Thanks.

I thought it was funny that even he said some people would claim that repentance is works for salvation LOL!! The nerve of people..... smh WOW!! "Easy beliefism" he called their belief system. Nice!! Lol hit the nail on the head! Sinners prayer system. I take it you do not subscribe to those people either?

But yes he has the right concept. Repentance is key. The only part I disagree with is his definiton of faith. He replaces belief with faith. They differ slightly but its not that big of an error but it does alter things.

Thats why he implies that this process of repentance ultimately reverts to Ephesians 2:8. By changing believing to faith, you get this mistranslation. But that is a matter of wording and definition. Overall message was to repent and I agree!

I define faith as an action or a product of your belief. Acts of obedience. True or genuine faith has works. Belief and repentance is the first step in coming to God and all of this leads to faith. Faith that drives you to pick up your cross. The kind of faith that endures, bears fruits, and multiplies. SAVING FAITH! The kind of faith that can be tested by the fiery trials and stands and remains.

That's great that you watched the sermon, i hope its been a blessing, indeed repentance is not a work but is according to the gospel! Amen :).

No, i do not subscribe to easy believism nor the foolishness of the "sinners prayer" as they aren't in the bible and are not the biblical gospel.

Awesome to hear, thanks aswell, your posts have been a blessing to my soul, its important we get the right words, but it's also important we hold to the reality of what those words/doctrines actually mean and don't mean, or we can be led astray.

Ya we must be very careful and test everything. I lean to the Spirit. Ive noticed its very hard to deceive a Saint. The Holy Spirit shows us. Thats why the scripture says in the end if even it were "possible" the elect would be deceived. Meaning its not possible.

We carry the Spirit of Truth. The Holy Spirit is our guide. Thats what we must lean to. My brother has had a few encounters as well where the Holy Spirit has lead him to see errors in some of the messages people were teaching.

Im glad I could be a blessing to you. I give God all the glory. Im going to continue to press forward and reach those who God wants to reach and encourage and sharpen those in the body. You have been a blessing as well keeping me on my toes. Sharpening my SWORD. If you know what I mean..

Absolutely. About 16 years ago I became a believer. I was red hot for God. Did everything that a new Believer was suppose to do. Life was grand. Blessing of a Wife and Children, a good home to live in.

As the years passed, I became like-warm in my walk. The burdens of the world and my old nature became appealing again. I went from luke-warm to all our wicked.

As fews month ago my Wife decided it was time leave me. I had been so wrong to her that her heart was actually harden. She left. I fell in despair.

One night I was alone and completely drunk. I wondered about my place for hours thinking, I don’t even know. What I do remember is having a loaded gun in my hand and I was walking about yelling at unclean sprits saying “ You finally got me. You finally destroyed me”

I remember sitting on my couch, rubbing the gun against the side of my head and finally ending up in my mouth with finger on the trigger. You know what bothers me the most was that I wasn’t scared. Either I was too intoxicated or didn’t care enough.

I passed out for the night. The next few days were hazy. I felt like a stranger in a strange land. People whom I have known were now like shadows passing by.

One day while I was sitting at my desk, I decided to listen to a sermon on divorce. The first video that popped up was one called “ Why God allows marriages to fail” The Man who did the video was passionate about his testimony. He was a Man that lost everything and was involved in a brutal divorce that lasted 5 years.

He message was that if we do indeed want to follow Christ we need deny ourselves and embrace and praise God for the pain that has come about. How can we truly be a follower if we had to never endure suffering or loss.

At the video I prayed and really thought what I heard. The next day as I was standing outside looking at the clouds I said “ Lord, God, Father! I give everything over to you. I don’t know what that will mean or be, but there is no other way. Take me for good or for bad and use me to your Glory!”

The next fews days I prayed, cried, repented of the sins I had committed to God and my family. Slowly, Gods grace and sprit descended upon me.

I walk with the Lord everyday now. The hurt and pain are still there, but God gives me comfort. I don’t know what my future holds, but I know I am in the Mighty Right Hand of Jesus. Whatever comes about, my thinking is now for eternity and His kingdom. It’s a hard concept to grasp for a finite being like myself.

Thank you for listening and pray for me. I will also pray for you!
That is an absolutely horrible story. I see myself in some of those instances. As far as your marriage and wife leaving. I had hardened mine as well. Well I love you and I will pray to our lord and savior to heal your heart and bring you love and happiness. I didn’t really want to read this before I went to bed on Sunday night. Very, very sad. I am saddened.
