I am kept awake by dark thoughts of what might have been and even worse... what is yet to be.

Try to take some OTC natural sleep aid and work on sleep hygiene (going to bed on a schedule, no electronics before bed, etc.). Insomnia creates hallucinations, racing thoughts, etc. If that does not work, please see a doctor.

Have you ever experienced this ?
I have. Very sleepless nights. Regret haunted me and the dread of those regrets seemed to dictate what would happen. I do know what you are experiencing.

Glad to know that I am not alone. How are you these days?
Doing better. And no, you certainly are not alone in that. So if you don’t mind my asking, are you a faithful man when comes to God?

Just pray. if things are bothering you, pray and read the Bible. If you give it to God, He will make your sleep sweet. Many burdens of this world are WAY to much for us humans to handle.

GOd doesnt sleep but we need to.

Past mistakes. Future suffering. All the worst things that keep a man up at night.
You can’t change the past, but if you make purposeful actions in the present you can change the future. I like to use the windshield analogy. You have this big window to look out in front and ones in the side but you only have this little mirror to see behind. It’s because the road ahead is remarkably more important than the road behind. Sure you can look back from time to time but if you keep staring in that little mirror you might miss something immediately important.

As far as sleep goes, when your head hits the pillow, focus on your heartbeat. Feel it beat in your chest. Feel the pulse in your neck. This is how I get into prayer state. Also slow down on stimulants, no hot or cold showers or big snacks before bed. Dim your lights starting at 7pm triggering circadian rhythm (darkness releases melatonin).
