The Unforgivable Sin

28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.
Mark3:28-30

We have all read this passage and know why Jesus said it. The Pharisees and Religious Leaders essential said Jesus was demonic.

Has anyone besides the ones that accused Jesus committed this sin? If they have, does that indicate God has harden their heart so much that they cannot be redeemed? Would one even know they are dammed for eternity regardless?

The unpardonable sin today is the state of continued unbelief. The Spirit currently convicts the unsaved world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8). To resist that conviction and willfully remain unrepentant is to “blaspheme” the Spirit. There is no pardon, either in this age or in the age to come, for a person who rejects the Spirit’s promptings to trust in Jesus Christ and then dies in unbelief. The love of God is evident: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) And the choice is clear: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.” (John 3:36) source

Billy Graham spoke of this as well. The continuation of rejecting the Holy Spirits conviction of a persons heart that Jesus is the only Justifier of our sins. Good point!

As you stated, the religious leaders were accusing Him of being demonic. I think because of their position, they had the influence to lead people away from Christ. Christ was warning them. I believe it isn’t always prudent to assume that every word Christ spoke was intended for everybody in every situation.

I agree with that premise. Since they knew the scriptures and what it said with regards to the Messiah, denying Him and attributing His works Satan was crossing a line in which there is no coming back.

Lots and lots of people will end up in hell. The OP Scripture seems to be a warning to all. I would say that they hardened their own heart even before blasphemy came out of their mouth. I agree that Scripture speaks of God hardening hearts, but I believe men choose to reject Him before He rejects them. I do not believe in any hyper-calvinistic version of election and predestination. We all have a choice and He is not willing that any should perish. I believe that Romans 1 shows us that all men know better, but they choose to do their own thing anyway.

I don't even think that Jesus had condemned them at that point, but simply warned them of the path they were on. That path eventually led them to lead one of Jesus' disciples to betray him, and they then crucified him. Falsly accusing him and condemning Jesus to die as an evil doer.

Remember, the blasphemy being spoken about is against the Holy Spirit, not Jesus Himself.

"32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven" - Matthew 12:32

The Holy Spirit is testifying through Jesus' miracles. They said Jesus was doing those miracles by the power of a demonic spirit. They were calling the Holy Spirit a lying spirit of Beelzebul, in effect calling the Holy Spirit a liar. That is a blasphemy against the Holy Spirit that can not be overlooked.

"Whoever does not believe God (the Holy Spirit-vs.6) has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son." - 1 John 5:10

You can get away with being wrong about a lot of things, but saying the testimony of the Holy Spirit about Jesus is a lying spirit ain't one of them.

Every person who rejects the message about Jesus given by the Holy Spirit commits this sin.

Only if they continue in that sin are they in danger of God hardening them in that sin.

Jesus talks of many who will be surprised to find out at the resurrection that they are not going to enter into the kingdom.

Under grace dispensation, there is no more unforgivable sin.

There is so much thats not written. Well we don't read when He said that. We don't read "who's Hes talking about?" "some spirit?" They knew what He was talking about. When Jesus spoke in Rev..after He spoke He said "he that has ears let him hear what the spirit says". Who was just talking?

Sometimes its strange well been walking with Him for SO many years and I still get this feeling so to speak to NOT touch how the sweet Holy Spirit moves. And we know He is the one that draws all to the Father and saying no to Him.. a no grace no mercy no forgiveness.
