I'm new to this chat, but not to this verse. Looking forward to the discussion.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (Matthew 7:21-23 NIV)

Hi @Matt72123, welcome to CChat :)

God bless you!

~Deut
p.s. - I think that discussing the passage that you posited for us in your OP on the Bible Discussion Forum (instead of here), would be a much better choice, as many never visit this board, and there are many others who do visit here but who tend not to discuss/debate theology.

1 Thessalonians 5
23 May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body
be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.

Hi Matt72123 nice to meet you. We're so glad to have you join us. Since you're new it will take a minute to figure things out, it took me more than a minute. As suggested the best place for Bible discussions is in 'The Bible Discussion Forum'. I'm sure you will get many responses there. Go to top of the page and tap Christian Forums then scroll down. God bless you and your family!

Hello Matt72123 and welcome to CC :)

In context these people believed they knew Jesus and believed that they where His followers.. But note what they where saying in a vain attempt to justify their place in eternity with Jesus .. Now i will quote the passage in the KJV for you to see..

Matthew 7: KJV
21 "¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. {22} Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? {23} And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

""done many wonderful works "" These people where Works salvation believers who thought their place with Jesus would be secured by them doing works.. That was their great mistake.. You will find a few of these Works salvation believers in this very forum.. I hope you do not add to their ranks and one day stand before Jesus crying LORD LORD as these guys will do..
