2 Thessalonians 2:3
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a
falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"

1 John 2:18
"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even
now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time."

The Antichrist is also known as:
son of perdition
man of sin
false messiah (this is not used in scripture but is what I call him)

"The Antichrist will be a man so wicked that, bad as other men are, wickedness should be his mark by
which he is distinguished from all others; a man who belongs to sin, in whom the ideal of sin has
become realised and incarnate. What kind of sin will be most prominent in him is not expressed in the
word itself; but the context points clearly to that which is, in fact, the crowning sin-spiritual pride
and rebellious arrogancy." -Ellicott commentary on 2 Thessalonians 2:3

The title "Man of Sin" excludes Satan, as Chrysostom remarks: Satan acts through the man to the full
extent of his power-"enters into him," as he entered into an earlier "Son of Perdition"-but
does not destroy his humanity.

2 Thessalonians 2:9
"even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,"

He will come to deceive the world that he is the messiah. He will be very charismatic to the unlearned eye.
Those that do not strictly follow Christ will not be able to distinguish between the spirit of the world (the Devil)
and the spirit of Christ. He will be able to perform miracles just as Jesus did, but it will be from Satan not God.

2 Thessalonians 2:4
"who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped;
so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God."

Many Christians have mistakenly took the above scripture as the false messiah sitting
in a literal rebuilt temple.

"Though the image is drawn from the Jewish temple, we may say with some confidence that St. Paul
did not expect the Antichrist as a prose fact to take his seat in that edifice. Neither is the
metaphor to be pressed into a mere synonym of "the Church". The words, so far
need not necessarily mean that the Man of Sin will make special claims upon the Christian
community as such. Rather, the whole phrase, "taking his seat in the temple of God," is a poetical
or prophetical description of usurping divine prerogatives generally: not the prerogatives of the
true God alone, but whatever prerogatives have been offered to anything "called God." Though
the prophecy might be fulfilled without any symbolical act (e.g., of assuming any material throne),
yet the spontaneousness ("himself") and the openness ("showing himself") seem so essentially parts
of the prophecy as of necessity to imply that the Man of Sin will make formal claim to occupy
that central seat in men's minds and aspirations which is acknowledged to be due to God alone.
The formal making of this claim seems to be identical with the apocalypse of the Man of Sin,
the act by which he is manifested or revealed." - Ellicott commentary on 2 Thessalonians 2:4

Religions around the world are awaiting the arrival of their messiah.
Jews await the messiah. Even though He already came.
Buddhists await Maitreya.
Hindus await Kalki.
Muslims await Mahdi.
Taoists await Li Hong.
Zoroastrianists await Saoshyant.
And there are other false spiritual paths/religions that really just worship fallen angels (demons)
who also are expecting a messiah. They will all receive the Antichrist and one world religion gladly.

Even Christians await the return of Jesus Christ, the true messiah. But only true Christians that
read and study the word of God as if their lives depend on it, because it does, know that the
false messiah, the Antichrist must be revealed first to deceive the world that he is the
messiah, that he is God. Just as 2 Thessalonians 2:3 tells us.

This deception of the Antichrist that will deceive most of the world into believing that he is
the true messiah, that he is God. This may be part of the falling away spoken of in 2 Thessalonians 2:3.
Hypocritical Christians who do not walk in true obedience and faith with Jesus Christ and
Father Jehovah will be deceived by the Antichrist, and fall away.

This deception of the Antichrist may also be related to the delusion spoken of in 2 Thessalonians 2:11.
"And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:"

I believe we are fast approaching these end time events that must happen before the return of
Jesus Christ. I believe we are only a short space away
from planned events to bring these prophecies to fruition.

Could you please explain these verses?

Thank you:

Daniel 9

Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the word to restore and to build Jerusalem unto one anointed, a prince, shall be seven weeks; and for threescore and two weeks, it shall be built again, with broad place and moat, but in troublous times. 26And after the threescore and two weeks shall an anointed one be cut off, and be no more; and the people of a prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; but his end shall be with a flood; and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. 27And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week; and for half of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease; and upon the wing of detestable things shall be that which causeth appalment; and that until the extermination wholly determined be poured out upon that which causeth appalment.’

(27) And he shall confirm.—The subject of the sentence is ambiguous. Theod. makes it to be “one week.” LXX. “the covenant;” others take it to be the Antichristian prince spoken of in the last verse, an opinion which derives some support from Daniel 7:25. According to this interpretation, the covenant refers to the agreement which the prince makes with the large number of persons who become apostates. But (1) the word “covenant” does not apply to any such agreement, but rather to a covenant with God, and (2) in Daniel 9:26 it is the people of the prince, and not the prince, which is the subject of the sentence. It is therefore more appropriate to take Messiah as the subject. During the last closing week of the long period mentioned, Messiah, though cut off, shall confirm God’s covenant (comp. Daniel 11:22; Daniel 11:28; Daniel 11:30; Daniel 11:32) with many, that is, with those who receive Him.
In the midst of the week.—Or, during half the week (the latter half of the week, according to the LXX.), he will cause to cease all the Mosaic sacrifices (possibly those mentioned in Daniel 8:11), whether bloody or unbloody. The verb “cause to cease” is used here as in Jeremiah 36:29.

And for the overspreading . . .—The Greek versions agree in translating this as follows, καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἱερὸν βδελυγμα τῶν ἐρημώσεων, which St. Jerome follows, “et erit in templo abominatio desolationis. However, it is not possible to obtain any such meaning from our present Hebrew text without omitting the last letter and altering the last vowel of the word translated “abominations.” As the text stands it can be literally translated only as follows, “and upon the wing of abominations is a desolator.” The desolator, of course, is the person who causes the desolations mentioned in Daniel 9:26. But what is meant by the “wing of abominations?” The language is without parallel in the Old Testament, unless such passages as Psalm 18:10; Psalm 104:3 are adduced, where, however, the plural “wings,” and not the singular, is used. If the number is disregarded, the words before us are explained to mean that “the abomination” or idolatry is the power by which the desolator accomplishes his purposes. He comes riding on the wings of abominations, using them for his ministers as God does the winds or the cherubim. As it appears decisive against this interpretation that Daniel has written “wing,” and not “wings,” it is better to explain the words as referring to the “sanctuary” spoken of in the last verse. The sense is in that case, “and upon the wing—i.e., the pinnacle of the abominations (comp. the use of πτερύγιον, Matthew 4:5) is a desolator. The Temple is thus called on account of the extent to which it had been desecrated by Israel.

Until the consummation.—These words refer back to Daniel 9:26, and mean that these abominations will continue till the desolation which God has decreed shall be poured upon that which is desolated. Though the word “desolate” is active in Daniel 8:13; Daniel 12:11, it appears in this passage to be used in a passive sense, as also in Daniel 9:18. That which is foretold by Daniel is the complete and final destruction of the same city and temple which evoked the prophet’s prayer. There is no prophecy that the desolator himself is destined to destruction. Of his doom nothing is here stated. The “prince” appears merely as the instrument pre-ordained by God, by whose people both city and sanctuary are to be destroyed. -Ellicott commentary on Daniel 9:27

So are you just gonna copy and paste from Ellicott's commentary?
It reminds me of the movie Good Will Hunting when a man was quoting history, and Will came up and started finishing his sentences for he knew what the man was going to say, for the man was getting all of his information from books, and Will said are you going to plagiarize the whole thing, or do you have any thoughts of your own.

Not to dog out BlessedCreator, but it reminds me of that.

It is good to get guidance, but the Bible says when they tell you the word of God search the scriptures daily to see if it is the truth, and study to show yourself approved unto God, and we need not that any person teach us, but the Spirit will teach us, and guide us in to all truth.

Which I believe when we seek it out for ourselves we will have a better understanding of it then only quoting some other person, unless it is Jesus, and the writers of the Bible for they sure had it right for it was of God.

Although the commentaries may be right but God said seek it out yourselves, and in our own words, and the way we want to put it seems like we would have a better understanding to us.

For anyone that asks God for wisdom He gives it to them liberally, nothing wavering, which means that the preacher, or the people that give commentaries, do not get any more wisdom than any of the other saints.

so essentially parts
of the prophecy as of necessity to imply that the Man of Sin will make formal claim to occupy
that central seat in men's minds and aspirations which is acknowledged to be due to God alone.
The formal making of this claim seems to be identical with the apocalypse of the Man of Sin,
the act by which he is manifested or revealed."
- Ellicott commentary on 2 Thessalonians 2:4
Many people tend to repeat this thought (in the bold ^ ), but I do not see them to be equated nor to occur at the same point in time.

Here's a part of a post I've made in the past, explaining somewhat what I mean:

[quoting]

[...] I've endeavored to point out how the 7-yrs is consistently shown in its three parts (namely, as in, its "BEGINNING," its "MIDDLE," and its "END") in quite a number of places:

BEG............MID............END

--Rev6:2 [BEG];... Rev13:1-7 [MID];... Rev19 [END]

--Dan9:27a[/26b] [BEG];... Dan9:27b [MID];... Dan9:27c [END]

--2Th2:9a/8a/3b[/1Th5:2-3 (INITIAL "birth PANG [SINGULAR]")] [BEG];... 2Th2:4 [MID];... 2Th2:8b [END]

--Matt24:4/Mk13:5 ['G5100-tis-'A CERTAIN ONE'] [BEG];... Matt24:15 [MID];... Matt24:29-31[/Isa27:12-13] [END]

[other verses of course...]

[end quoting that post]

____________

This ^ means that I believe 2Th2:4 (the part in the bold in comment above) takes place in the MIDDLE, but that his "be revealed" is what takes place at the BEGINNING (parallel to other passages)...

and that (as this 2Th2 context says), "ONE THING" must take place *FIRST* before "the Day of the Lord" will be present to play out upon the earth... with its "man of sin" and all he will do over the course of said time-period he is slated to do such:

--"whose COMING [/ARRIVAL / ADVENT / PRESENCE / parousia]" [BEG], v.9a [v.8a/v.3c]

--"who... SITTETH" [MID], v.4

--"whom the Lord shall consume... destroy" [END], v.8b

This is the only point I wish to make in this thread / at this time. :)

I posted Ellicott's commentary because he said it much better than I ever could. Would you prefer me to write something with the same meaning but less clear and thorough? I know I wouldn't. Let us not be as the scribes and pharisees of Jesus' time who were petty/unpleasable as Christ spoke of in chapter 11 of Matthew comparing them to children in the marketplace.

Nothing petty about my comment - I'd say who haven't correctly read and understood what you posted:

1 John 2:18 "Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even
now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time."

A correct translation should (but most probably won't) clue you into the the 1st century timing of John's statement:

1 John 2:18 Little youths, it is the last hour; and even as ye heard that the antichrist doth come, even now antichrists have become many -- whence we know that it is the last hour.

So, little youth, are you going to accept that John said it was the last hour and try and make it hundreds of years past the time John penned this?

No need to try to belittle me. But that is okay I forgive you.

As far as what "last time" means in 1 John 2:18:

The closing period or dispensation; that dispensation in which the affairs of the world are ultimately to be wound up. The apostle does not, however, say that the end of the world would soon occur, nor does he intimate how long this dispensation would be. That period might continue through many ages or centuries, and still be the last dispensation, or that in which the affairs of the world would be finally closed. -Barnes commentary on 1 John 2:18

There is no end of the world - there was the end of age - that being the age of Moses.

(Mat 24:3 And when he is sitting on the mount of the Olives, the disciples came near to him by himself, saying, 'Tell us, when shall these be? and what is the sign of thy presence, and of the full end of the age?)

(Heb 9:26 since it had behoved him many times to suffer from the foundation of the world, but now once, at the full end of the ages, for putting away of sin through his sacrifice, he hath been manifested)

1 Cor 10:11 And all these things as types did happen to those persons, and they were written for our admonition, to whom the end of the ages did come)

The age (not the world) was coming to an end when Hebrews was written:

(Heb 8:13 in the saying 'new,' He hath made the first old, and what doth become obsolete and is old is nigh disappearing)

I think there is too much of an obsession with the Antichrist on site. I'm not waiting for him to show up. I'm waiting for the real one. Its Christ we should be focusing on and our relationship with him.

That's the problem tanakh, many are teaching that the Lord is going to return BEFORE the antichrist will come. Which is dangerous because if you're expecting the true messiah Jesus Christ to come first you're really going to get the false messiah the antichrist who will deceive many people into believing that he is God.

Who are these many teachers who think Christ is coming before the Antichrist? The only people I know who expect him to come first
are those who believe in a Pre Trib rapture.

That's the problem tanakh, many are teaching that the Lord is going to return BEFORE the antichrist will come.
The word "return," biblically speaking, applies only to His Second Coming to the earth (at the Rev19 point in the chronology, i.e. after the trib years [this (word) is not speaking of "our Rapture" point-in-time]); In that sense, then, it is true that the "antichrist" comes BEFORE that point in the chronology.

Don't feel too bad, though, a great many people mis-apply that word. ;)

Which is dangerous because if you're expecting the true messiah Jesus Christ to come first you're really going to get the false messiah the antichrist who will deceive many people into believing that he is God.

IOW you are in effect waiting for the false Jesus coming on a white horse.

Jesus said watch and wait for him.
So,by poo pooing that, you think it is some high ground to invest in waiting for and looking for the wrong white horse rider.

Basically you guys have not got much at all.
Not anything pointing to a postrib rapture.

That's the problem tanakh, many are teaching that the Lord is going to return BEFORE the antichrist will come. Which is dangerous because if you're expecting the true messiah Jesus Christ to come first you're really going to get the false messiah the antichrist who will deceive many people into believing that he is God.
I do not believe in a pre-7 years resurrection, and salvation is available to the world for the first three and one half years, and the last three and one half years is the tribulation.

2Ti 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

2Ti 2:17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

2Ti 2:18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

The pre-trib is the most popular belief, and when it does not happen it will overthrow the faith of some people.

1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

Some people will depart from the truth of the Bible and follow the new age movement interpretation of the Bible.

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Which the New Age Christ will push the agenda of the new age movement to prepare the world for when he claims to be God, and will be the time the world will only want to hear the Bible according to the new age movement.

When the nations come together and say Peace and safety as they try to establish peace on earth the 7 years period will begin.

But the saints that are in the truth will not be deceived for Jesus said He will deliver them from the temptation that shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell on earth, which is when the nations come together and say Peace and safety, for then the world has a choice to get with God, or follow the world, and Paul said the saints will not be deceived when the world says Peace and safety.

And the New Age Christ will not claim to be Jesus, but above Jesus, so they will not be deceived.

When the resurrection does not happen pre- 7 years period it will overthrow the faith of some people, but those who still stay with God will not be deceived.

But salvation is still available to the world for the first three and one half years, and that is when the beast claims to be God, so the people whose faith was overthrown can still come to the truth.

After further research I have concluded that I need to do even further research on the man of sin/son of perdition spoken of in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 as I am not entirely sure whether he truly is a single man or really just a succession of men or a mass movement (group). We all need to thoroughly research the word of God, the Holy Bible, and let God lead us.
