Unless my memory fails me....I am fairly confident that God told Moses to speak to the rock....and out of anger he struck it twice.......
I am quite sure your memory is spot on.
could it be that God did not tell Moses to strike the rock?

if I remember correctly, God told Moses to speak to the rock.

Moses disobeyed, so hence was not allowed to enter the promised land.
That is exactly what I've been saying and then explained the potential prophetic significance of the two events.
"I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come
out of it for the people to drink." So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Exodus 17:6
Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it give forth its water; and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink. And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. Then Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels: shall we bring water for you out of this rock?” And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice, and water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock

I was looking for artwork of Male Angels, and I have to admit you are right. Almost all of them have a certain level of being half nude or more, that would be unacceptable on Christian site. There are VERY few acceptable images out there, and most of them are not royalty free.

One was wearing Blue Jeans, which I found was really strange. LIKE YOUR BLUE JEANS go to heaven with you to GIVE TO ANGELS, LOL.

Hello VCO, I did use that angel in a panel I designed last summer:

There is not a lot of choice out there, which is why I have begun constructing my own angels :)

Like this one:

And this one:

PS to Dcon et alia: my apologies, I did just now click back through four pages
of posts to earlier this morning and saw the original quote from Numbers :D

Different rock, different place.
1Cor 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
1Cor 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
1Cor 10:3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
1Cor 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
1Cor 10:5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
1Cor 10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

God Bless!

I have already told you what I believe,
I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.
Here is what I beleive again:
Cloud by day Fire by night, the water parted,THe scroll flew, the fleece was dry, the donkey talked,
Most important:
CHrist died and rose on the 3rd day to Eternal life....

I believe also Moses struck it twice as a sign he did not trust God to just strike it once...
He Moses was using his own strength as if to say " I better do it twice , just in case "...

Yes , God told Moses to speak to the rock , but he spoke to the crowd instead ...
Correction on my behalf , God told Moses to speak to the rock , not strike it once ...
Praise God for His correction to bring forth His truth Amen...

Moses error::

"""Then Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels: shall we bring water for you out of this rock?”""

So who would the Hebrews think was causing water to come out of the Rock?? The God of Abraham ? Or Moses and Aaron??

But do you believe a doctrine that says you can sin if you want in unbelief--not that you should, but that you can if you want and you will still be saved?

"you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites" - Numbers 20:12

Striking the rock was just the way in which he did not honor God as holy.

slight problem with the verse you quote and the words you follow with.

The sinner came to Jesus and asked for mercy/forgiveness of sins.

Nothing mentioning he did this and that he wanted to be changed.

The change is as a result of forgiveness.

That's where discipleship comes in.
There's a lot of things not mentioned in that story.

When Jesus talks about 'rest for the weary' he's talking about being released from the taskmaster of sin.
I think a problem in Freegrace churches is people don't come to the Lord because they despise their sin but because they just don't want to be guilty anymore. (I know that you are not a Freegrace osas'er).

Did the tax collector in Luke 18 come to Jesus for justification because he wanted to be a different person or because he just wanted a ticket out of hell? His life afterward would tell us.

You know this makes no sense right?

No one comes to the Lord unless it is on HIS TERMS.

Despising your sin does not save you... more Catholicism 101
