God temporarily laid aside a part of His omnipotence when He granted free will to His creation and this was given that we might choose Truth and Duty and become His children.

Christ died to save us not from suffering but from ourselves.

The folly of any mind is to try and explain God before obeying Him; trying to map out His character instead of crying to Him: “Lord, what would you have me do?

To him who obeys and thus opens the door of his heart to receive the eternal gift, God gives the Spirit of His Son to be in him and to lead him to the understanding of all Truth.

No man is condemned for what he has done, rather he is condemned for continuing in the darkness and not venturing into the light.

The one sin that cannot be forgiven is the sin of choosing to be continuously evil.

Until repentance occurs it is impossible for God to forgive as that would be like Him taking part in it.

To say that someone might disobey God and be none the worse is like saying that 'yes' is 'no' and 'light' is 'dark'.

Never wait for a better time to talk to God – do it right now. To wait until later or until we go to church is to keep God waiting. He will listen as we walk or work.

Do not worry if others speak lies about us or even the righteous turn their backs on us. Our only concern should be that we do not turn our backs on them.

Let us do right and not trouble ourselves about worthless opinion. The less we listen to idle chatter the less difficult we will find it to love others.

Let us be glad we were wrong when we thought others to be wrong.

To be ashamed is a blessed and holy thing but to be humbly ashamed is to be washed clean in the cleansing water of Truth.

We think how terrible if it were I who betrayed our Lord as Judas did. But unless I love my neighbour I might one day betray him in whom dwells our Lord. Let us therefore be compassionate and humble and hope the best for everyone.

A person might sink by slow degrees so that long after they become devilish in their ways they still believe they are a good churchgoer and a good Christian.

To have one penny more in this life than we need is to diminish the share of others.

In the hereafter will our friends know us to their joy or will their hearts sink within them when they look on the real likeness of us? Maybe, just maybe, they will rejoice to find we were not so bad as they thought.

What comes from myself only is sin; a perversion of something that belongs to God.

Life without Christ is like a stream that is cut off from its source and yet still believes it can run.

It is by loving and not by being loved that we can come nearest to the soul of another.

In the beginning I understood only that I had to take up my cross whereas I now know that the real purpose of life is to follow Christ.

By all means tell people when you are busy and do not have the time to spare at that moment but do not get rid of them by the use of the method called the 'cold shoulder' for that is a wicked method.

Happily for our blessedness we soon tire of our possessions.

Work is not always required of man. There is such a thing as sacred idleness the cultivation of which is now sadly neglected.
