We can know that there is something wrong in the doctrines of some of our churches, perhaps all of them. If they taught correctly they would all agree, and they don’t. What should we do about it?
God loves the church and what God loves we are also to love. Ephesians 5: 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
We know there is a church that we all belong to who love the Lord, and God speaks to this church. But scripture is clear about that God speaks not only to our spirit, but to our works that reflect that spirit. God also recognizes the organized churches we have in our land.
We can look to the churches listed in scripture along with what was wrong in their doctrine. From this scripture we can see what we are to do when we see something wrong in the doctrine of our church. Certainly, we don’t turn away from the organized church because of what we see. In all the churches we are told of in Rev. 2 and 3 there is praise for the people in that church who put God’s word above the doctrines of their earthly church. But always scripture sums up his listing of what is wrong in each church with the advice to each member of that church to listen to the Holy Spirit. Rev. 3: 13 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
I conclude that we are to love and support our earthly church, but we are to listen first to the Lord, not the church.
