Anyone willing to search other scriptures the Lord Jesus taught about prayer and discuss ? ! We could learn together rather than argue 😘

He taught a lot about prayer and I don’t feel as Christians we really go to the source of our faith I’ll begin with this section and would gladly invite your thoughts , insights and other sections regarding prayer in scripture .

“And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men.

Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them:

for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. ( John 6 :47-48) And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:5-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

now Jesus just explained it’s not about repeating phrases or anything I believe his teachings are about understanding the things of God.

there’s a lot to see in this example God actually wants us to address him as Our Father in heaven.

Jesus actually teaches his disciples to ask for forgiveness when praying and make sure to forgive others as you ask of him , so give to others in return.

hope to hear your examples and hopefully some scriptures that have helped you in prayer or helped in faith God certainly , most assuredly , without question , through and through loves you enough to suffer and die to save you

Things would certainly be different if God's people would pray in earnest. Many simply do not know how to pray nor do they have a heart for prayer.

Jas 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

For the cause of Christ

yes sir I agree wholly . If people believed the things Jesus taught about prayer imagine how different that would be . See Paul says to pray about everything Like jesus said but the dofference is Jesus is teaching Gods children about prayer the manner and design the principle

we truly need the gospel to create a heart for things like prayer.

“Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭21:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

see how if I believe in Jesus , him the lord teaching that builds faith , confidence and again if I am willing to believe of course I’m going to take prayer more seriously

sharing the lord is important

This should have been in the op darn it To his disciples ( the church )

“Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the key there is discipleship to Christ which is what a Christian actually is

“And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves ( Paul and Barnabus) with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭11:26‬ ‭

A college professor did a study on how to pray and tested the effectiveness of different prayers. He established three groups of students of 15 persons each that spend one year with promises to work at their problems through prayer. One group was given psychological help, one spent half an hour a day in prayer with no other instructions on how to pray, and one group met weekly once a week to study what scripture told them about prayer and followed that. At the end of a year a test was given to see if the problem they started out with was improved. The professor put the results in a book called "Prayer Can Save Your Life", along with how the most successful group did it.

The successful group had some miraculous answers to prayer. They found that sin kept them from close communion with the lord, and holding a resentment toward someone was the most important barrier to be overcome. Matthew 6:14-15
, “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

It was interesting that the group who simply prayed without first studying what scripture tells us about prayer had no positive results at all, for some it made the problem worse. The explanation, the author felt, was that they simply repeated the problem to the Lord over and over. Effective prayer has faith in the Lord to hear and know what we need.

John 9:31 “We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.”

Really interesting study I’ve never heard of that or any such study really cool thanks for sharing that

yes when we’re aware of sin in our lives it will automatically cause us to withdraw from our close relationship with the lord . I’m ashamed to admit I have experienced that many different times in my journey especially the earlier times .

Yes the gospel is designed so perfectly to embrace a sinners with Gods loving arms , and then lead them into a better life through repentance.

I think it’s a matter of we’re all sinners , some love sin and have no reason to repent . Others are aware of their sin and it makes thier heart sick a bit knowing thier lords word and thier deeds .

some hunger freedom from sin and for righteousness , others hunger for freedom from righteousness and a liscence that pardons thier ongoing sin because they love darkness rather than light.

“The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭18:11-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I think Hod hears a sinners prayer if they acknowledge their sins and don’t hide them I think of David who committed adultery and plotted
And ordered a mans murder all after God chose him. This was his heart that is the root of our gospel

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;

and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51:1-3, 6-7, 9-14, 16-17‬ ‭

that’s where the shaping of the gospel comes from “ the sure mercies of David “

that’s a true sinners prayer . Notice he’s asking formHods mercy and for God to make him able now that David’s pride was gone again having been guilty of severe death penalty sins under the law .

now long after David’s death God have this testimony

“And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;”
‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭14:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭28:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

After this manner therefore pray ye...
This prayer is to teach us the scope of our prayers, and what is significant to God.

1. GOD'S CHILDREN MUST APPROACH THEIR FATHER AS CHILDREN
Our Father

2. GOD IS IN HEAVEN AND KNOWS AND CONTROLS ALL THINGS
which art in heaven

3. HUMBLE REVERENCE TO GOD IS THE FIRST ITEM OF IMPORTANCE
Hallowed be thy name

4. GOD'S KINGDOM IS OF SUPREME IMPORTANCE TO GOD AND MEN
Thy kingdom come

5. GOD'S WILL MUST PREDOMINATE HEAVEN AND EARTH, AND OUR LIVES
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven

6. OUR DAILY NEEDS MUST BE EXPRESSED DAILY, AND NO NEED IS TOO TRIVIAL
Give us this day our daily bread

7. WE NEED TO FORGIVE, AND BE FORGIVEN, DAILY FOR PRAYERS TO BE ANSWERED
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors

8. WE NEED TO BE PRESERVED FROM DAILY TEMPTATIONS
And lead us not into temptation

9. WE NEED TO BE DELIVERED FROM EVIL MEN AND EVIL EVENTS DAILY
but deliver us from evil

10. GOD IS SOVEREIGN OVER THE UNIVERSE, AND WE APPROACH THE THRONE OF GRACE
For thine is the kingdom

11. ALL POWER AND AUTHORITY BELONGS TO GOD AND CHRIST
and the power

12. ALL GLORY BELONGS TO GOD AND CHRIST
and the glory

13. GOD'S KINGDOM, POWER, AND GLORY ARE ETERNAL (EVERLASTING)
for ever.

14. SO BE IT, AND SO SHALL IT BE DONE
Amen.

Note: All modern bible versions have tampered with the Lord's Prayer. Also, fourteen is double the number of divine perfection.

Good stuff it’s a framework a compass a design an attitude the entire gospel is the same dear brother .

Jesus teaches man about the true God in heaven and what he wants what’s important to him how he cares about us ect

and we’re meant to believe it and know the truth

Scholars feel there is a history to the Lord's prayer. They feel it is a condensed version of a prayer called the Amidah the Jews use to this day as they speak to the Lord. Christ, as a Jew, knew this prayer.

When the remnant returned to Jerusalem they needed to rebuild not only the temple, but Judaism. They called on the wisest and most learned men of the return in a great assembly of from 70 to 120 men. They reinstalled the feasts and taught the people. They composed the Amidah prayer.

It is another link we have, confirming that Christ fulfilled all that was said of Him in the OT. After Christ, the anti-Christian Jews added to this prayer verses opposed to Christ.

wow that is very informative I never knew or heard about that . I have done a bit of a study on the history of the Jewish people and it is a confirmation of the wrath poured upon them in the ot.

yes Paul warned of that very thing your explaining judaizers coming along corrupting the gospel with the same Judaism of the latter ot and time in between the last prophet and Matthew .

it doesn’t seem like much gets taught these days about prayer according to the lord Paul doesn’t really say how to pray he just says to pray jesus teaches us the framework and design of prayer or his example for us

I notice he mostly prayed standing but also In anguish he prayed on the ground And even as they nailed him to the cross he prayed for their forgiveness and then he hung there and prayed a bit more

it occured to me at Some Point prayer is just having the proper reverence for our Heavenly Father Knowing his will is our framework and staying in constant communication with him .

He loves us like a daddy when we come home Doesn’t like it when we don’t stay on touch we flourish when we pray hard and often for the right things

“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭11:24-26‬ ‭

In the book "Prayer Can Change Your Life" it tells of one lady who had to live with a hated mother-in-law. As they studied correct prayer, the hate had to go, but it was an emotion she just had. So she was advised to act as if she loved her. As she did this, her hate DID turn to love.

Her problem was that she was ill, and she had joined the prayer group for that reason. They were told not to repeat their problem but have faith in that the Lord heard it, but concentrate on getting rid of what they thought of as barriers (sin) between them and the Lord. As this barrier vanished, so did the illness.

The doctors would say that stress causes illness, and healing can happen when the stress goes away. They don't understand it is how the Lord works.

now Jesus just explained it’s not about repeating phrases or anything I believe his teachings are about understanding the things of God.

there’s a lot to see in this example God actually wants us to address him as Our Father in heaven.

Jesus actually teaches his disciples to ask for forgiveness when praying and make sure to forgive others as you ask of him , so give to others in return.

hope to hear your examples and hopefully some scriptures that have helped you in prayer or helped in faith God certainly , most assuredly , without question , through and through loves you enough to suffer and die to save you
When i read the above prayers I see them as such a blessing . But I also think when you notice especially in mathew 6.9 the use of ' our Father ' i see this more in a old testament sense , more of a corporate prayer the Jews would pray. Of course Hes talking to Jews about how to pray. By the time we get to the new testament , especially in the epistles ,we see a more direct, intimate personal approach to prayer . I'm not saying praying the Lords prayer is wrong or anything but the distinction is worth some thought.

I think we sometimes forget the role God gave the Jews, and it was for our benefit. Abraham lived in a world that had no justice. A hand could be cut off because of stealing an apple. Women were treated terribly, the idea of them being honored as we read in the 31st chapter of Proverbs was strictly of the Jews.

The huge mob that escaped slavery in Egypt with Moses were a sorry bunch of people more Egyptian that Jewish. Moses had to teach them almost from scratch about the Lord. They needed a physical mark to remind them of the Lord. They needed to be kept separate from idol worshippers, no partying together so they were given a special way of eating. God gave up on them at one point, Moses pleaded with God for them.

They failed us many times, but without them we would have a terrible world. Image living with no understanding of God at all! That was the state of the world when God created the Hebrew race. From the time of Moses until Christ, it was only the Jews who knew of God. If you were a gentile and decided to join them you became a Jew.

amen praise the lord what a great story !!

yes that’s my faith is to conform to jesus teachings because we believe he is our Lord . So if we don’t feel like forgiving we do it because of his word and faith , and in doing that he is able to change that unforgiving part of our heart through faith , obeying because we believe

we all Make mistake sometimes God forgives and teaches us the truth if we will hear and believe and so obey his ways such as prayer

God bless you thank you for the good spirit and the wonderful studies and story make very good points

Amen totally agree

“Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

amen The ot is an example and prophetic type for the New Testament. A pattern and shadow you see Abraham lives before the time of Moses Moses was actually Abraham’s grandson.

There is an allegory of the two covenants made with abram the Hebrew , and Abraham the man of faith. One the Old Testament corresponds to Ishmael and his life . Ishmael was born because Sarai decided abram should go to her maid and have a son to accomplish aids promise to Abraham

That is allegorically speaking how the old covenant is it’s entirely based on mans effort to achieve Gods standard. Ishmael relied on Sarai to give him the idea but Isaac was because God said it even though they weren’t able God provided Abraham an heir

ever notice how God renames people ? Abram the Hebrew became Abraham father of many nations , Jacob became israel , Saul became paul ect ?

there are two distinct covenants in scripture one is the law of Moses according to Ishmaels promise based on man

then there is the sin of promise Isaac throughbehom all the people of the earth would be blessed as Israel rejected Jesus who was the seed of promise allegorically represented by Isaac first he came tomosrael to fulfill thier covenant promise then was sent through their rejection to all
Men

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38-39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

indeed the ot was our example and also our promises are those eternal promises made to Israel regarding Gods eternal
Kingdom

the Jews covenant blinded then
To Christ like the veil Moses wore but it was prophetically about Jesus Christ
