Love is the basis of all scripture. Any time God does not show love it is because God loves us and does not want evil to threaten us, God is against evil. All God's laws are expressions of love. The 10 commandments are giving us instructions in how to love. We, as gentiles, are exempt from laws that Moses gave the mob who followed him in the desert to help them learn and obey the laws of love. We are exempt from fleshly circumcision and diet control. They do not express love. We are to obey all laws that express ways for us to express love.

When Christ was scolded for not obeying law, Christ was truly obeying the true law for Christ was obeying the law of love. When Christ gave instructions for how we are to live with Him, all those instructions were based on love.

When man let evil into our world, the first thing the Lord did was give blood for the salvation of our souls as we are told in Lev. 17:11. It is because God loves us and wants us with Him forever, so he protects us from death.

When we give our sins to Christ and accept life, we put on the ways of Christ, and that is love. Love for God and love expressed for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Living with exact Christian doctrine and quibbling about it is not love, love is more important than exact doctrine, for the true doctrine is love.

1 John 4:7-12 (NASB) Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us.
(1Cor 13 has nothing on the above passage).

How can we call it "lending," if it is not to be repaid?

Solomon gave the answer: "He who has pity upon the poor lends unto the LORD; and that which he has given will He pay him again." Proverbs 19:17

The idea is the Lord will repay, and He does so abundantly!

As He has been merciful to us, we are to be merciful to others; everything we do is to be based on what He has done for us.
