Back to acts 2:4... God didn't cause the disciples to speak earthly languages for 2 reasons at least.

1. They were already in one accord.
2. There wasn't anyone else there at the time. They were ALL together and ALL in one accord.

There was however the need to worship God in spirit. "If I pray in an unknown tongue my spirit prayeth"

It is only After the initial outpouring of Acts 2:4 that the multitude hears of what is going on, then gathers together, then hears them (the disciples) speaking in their (the multitude's) own native languages...which happens to be the gift of Diversities of tongues.

Acts 2:6 KJV
Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
Diversities of tongues is speaking natural languages by the power of the Holy Ghost rather than by learning 2nd languages. Diversities of tongues is speaking to MEN, which is why the multitude was able to understand.

At the initial outpouring there wasn't a need to speak to MEN because all the men were already in one accord. However, there was the need to worship God in spirit , which speaking in unknown tongues (the babbly kind) does.

1 Corinthians 14:2 KJV
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

This speaking to GOD is what was poured out to ALL that were there. Because ALL need to worship God in Spirit and in truth. When you worship God sincerely, you are worshipping God in truth. In order to worship God in SPIRIT, you need to receive his Spirit, which brings the ability to worship in Spirit as it arrives. That's another statement of the reason they ALL began to speak with tongues as the spirit gave them utterance.

Heretical and not supported in scripture. This line of thinking is against scripture and the true nature of the Holy Spirit.

If you speak in tongues and claim to be a prophet as most people in this movement do, yet your life is in absolute shambles, please don't try to convince me to take your "thus saith the Lord" or tongues seriously.
I wouldn't say most people, but then again when you have 'schools' that 'teach' you how to act like you have a spiritual gift, you should be hearing very loud alarm bells

the abuse is real and very harmful

I have had a few people speak those famous words of 'God told me to tell you' into my ears and when I broke away from it and finally really stood up to the main character in that charade, all hell broke loose. I was lied about to anyone who would listen (turns out 'Christians' love a good story about someone who makes them look better even if the story is a lie), a lawyer was actually employed to try and take worldly goods away from me (put her out on the street) and my character associated and trampled out with immorality accusations that were completely false

scripture was used ... beware when people hide behind God. this is darkness and not light. using God as their authority is not inspired by the Holy Spirit

I could go on, at the risk of boring most, but my point is, DO NOT LISTEN to people telling you what God wants for you because you will become ensnared. I personally think it is a lying spirit that will get a hold of you and when you wake up, they will have wound themself throughout your life and getting free will be difficult and painful

There are exceptions, but the Bible says tests the spirits for a reason. sometimes a life and death reason

Everyone is given a gift when they are reborn. Some never realize their gifts and some misuse them. No gift should be condisered superior, there are verses that speak to the issue. All gifts are to glorify God first, and for the proper operation of His body, the Church.

I can see as usual this is a waste of time

Go on believing as you wish. You can’t even get the baptism of the spirit right. You think I am going to trust you on anything else?
I think there's one more thing to be said.

The points I asked you to consider weren't doctrinally complex. They were very simple and easy to see. For example ALL (rather than some) started speaking with other tongues in Acts 2:4.

That was actually the beauty of what was revealed.

Jesus said "He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much, and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much."

Of course i liked that little tidbit about "ALL" because it is rather undeniable and fits easily into my current belief system. (Adapted over years)

But it doesn't seem to fit as well into your current belief system. So the question becomes "What should you do when a biblical truth doesn't fit your beliefs?"

I'm not going to force an answer upon you because every individual gets to make that decision for themself.

But HOW you react to the small, undeniable truths of the word of God is indicative of how you do or will handle the bigger truths.

Do you want to push them aside, or do you want to learn from them? Because they aren't going away.

Everyone who is born again is given the gift of the Holy Spirit. If God did not do that He would be leaving us as orphans, no guidance, no discernment, no insight to scripture.

John 14: 16-18

16 I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Grace,

It's not a matter of God being unwilling to give, or that something he gives is somehow insufficient. As was pointed out in the post just before yours, it's a matter of what do we do with what he gives.

God spake the same words and gave the same promises to all of the children of Isreal that were in Egypt...but most of them were destroyed in the wilderness because of how they handled those gifts. People are often afraid of truths like that and try to hide from them instead of asking, "Hey God...I don't want to be like those who were destroyed. Would you teach me how to be like those who thrived?"

Do you agree that the tongues in acts 2 and 10 are actual foreign languages?

Not in Acts 2:4 as that would be the unknown (babbly) kind that people still receive today. (Not meant to converse with man, but rather God).

However, in Acts 2:6 yes, the multitude was hearing the disciples speak in multiple earthly languages, which is what the bible calls "diversities of tongues" or "diverse/divers" tongues.

In acts 10 it would be the babbly kind of tongues as well, as they also began to worship God in spirit.

Same in the Acts 19:1-7 account.

Which type of speaking in tongues did you receive when receiving the Holy Ghost?

Interesting, how come you regard the tongues in vs4 different from the tongues heard in vs6?

Different audience.

As for the disciples who were doing the speaking, I doubt they knew the difference.

Once you're yielding your voice and mouth to the syllables of the Holy Ghost, it doesn't matter much whether it's an earthly language or a heavenly language. As the speaker, you don't understand either.

Singing in the Holy Ghost works that way too. (Then you are yielding pitch and tone control as well). He gave me this "medley" that I'd sing in tongues and at one particular part my wife would say "Why are you singing a Sesame Street song?" At first I'd say "I'm not. I'm just singing in the spirit whatever tune the Lord gives me". But after several times of that happening I began to recognize the portion where she'd ask, so I asked if that was the part she was referring to. She affirmed so I asked her what Sesame Street song it was. It was the one with an alligator king whose sons were trying to win his favor by giving gifts (that just overloaded him). When he stumbled under the burden, the last son helped him up. That is the son to whom he gave the crown.

Until she brought it to my knowledge, I had no idea that the spirit was having me sing a tune that made sense to anyone else.

That's how diversities of tongues works most times I've heard of. But not always.

My favorite testimony was that of a girl here (I forgot her name) whose friend was at college praying in her dorm room when her Chinese roommate asked her with tears "Why do you know my sins?" and explained that she had just spoken a list of her sins using 3 different dialects of Chinese. The girl knew nothing more than that she was praying in tongues (the babbly kind). I may have said it before but I think that is so cool!

I would like to understand how you conclude it was to different audience when it took place at the same location

The initial gathering was of the disciples (and God)...and they were all in one place and all in one accord. Then verse 4 happens (among THAT original group). Only then does the mixed multitude begin to gather together to see what's going on. (See verse 6)

Let's go to the scripture account KJV.

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

Is there any reason to believe that the tongues suddenly changed in those verses? If Acts 2:6 made it clear that tongues were a known foreign language, you could go backwards and claim that Acts 2:4 was the "shabala ka" kind?

As for Acts 10, Peter seems clear to me when he stated

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

and in Acts 11, he explained

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

Acts 2 and Acts 10 were the first 2 record in scripture of tongue speaking.

If Peter explained twice there that the Cornelius household received the same HS gift as they, and Acts 2:5-6 clearly indicated the tongues were known foreign languages, how can you conclude that in Acts 10, it suddenly became the "heavenly language"?

How come you skipped lightly over the part where the multitude needed to gather together? (It means the audience changed even if the speakers were the same people.)
