Oooooooh YEAH!

We used to be able to listen to music on the job (until somebody was listening to rap with racial slurs and a customer complained... I'm still a bit sore about that.) When a new person started on the job I would make certain to ask if there was any music they were allergic to, as my music collection has everything from bluegrass gospel and southern gospel to christian rap and christian heavy metal. I inquired because I don't want to get on anybody's nerves and them be too polite to say anything about it. The answer was almost always the same: "I like all kinds of music."

Well... we soon found out just how broad the new guy's taste in music really was. :D

I was the unofficial DJ at my software consulting company in Chicago back in the day. I knew how to pick tunes that matched the least common denominator so that nobody complained. In the off chance someone did complain, I banned a song/tune from the list forever. Jazz music and jazzy rock seemed to work out the best with my coworkers at the time (though we had freer after hour playlists too that could get as crazy as anyone’s taste, usually noise rock). At one of our clients, I literally had people write down their favorite songs on a white wall and I spun them into the playlist. Anyways, that client loved us for various reasons. We convinced managers there to give developers sunshine through real windows (not just Windows on a computer screen), but I digress.

Godspeed.
