Did Jesus ever....

laugh or smile?

i think of him as completely serious all the time.

We don't read about any apostles laughing or smiling. This does not mean they did not. It is just not recorded.

Yes, I believe Jesus would laugh and smile. Bethany is where Jesus would go to relax, with his friends Lazarus, Martha, and Mary. Being with close friends one would naturally laugh and smile. With the disciples, as Jesus was training them for missionary work, I do not believe there would be much laughing and smiling.

I like what Jesus says in Luke 6:21: "Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh" (KJV).

We know that he wept, but as others have said, it isn't recorded that he ever laughed or smiled.

But seriously, can you imagine he didn't smile when he had the children come to him? How could he not?

Yes he laughed and smiled. Those are attributes from God. Also Jesus had many followers. Generally people are drawn more to people who smile. The energy of that person is higher as oppose to being depressed and sleeping. Though he wasn't always smiling and laughing obviously.

I had a dream of an angel before and he was smiling. Their feelings aren't up and down the way humans are. They are consistent with love. Therefore a smile seems appropriate. If I got to interact with my creation I would smile too.

There are verses in the bible saying that God is a jealous God, He wept He felt compassion and got angry...so I believe if God got jealous, wept and felt compassion i believe that He is also a God that smiles and laugh... Specially when His Children are very obedient to Him. I believe He smiles 😊

We were made in His image, and the attributes of being filled with the Holy Spirit are in Galatians 5: love, JOY, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self control.

I don't know, but this does remind me of this scene from The Passion Of The Christ.

I recall at the baptism of John The Creator spoke, "this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased", indicating how even though He had done nothing in ministry to that point the very way He lived His life was pleasing to our Creator.
We know He modeled for us how we are to live.
I enjoying seeing that scene again, thank you kindly.

My Pastor always says to us, "If you want to find out what Jesus did, you read the New Testament. If you want to find out about His Personality, you have to pore through the Old Testament to glean what He was like.

You are quite right, the Gospels don't say anything about His Personality, but we can read through the Psalms and gain a good picture of our Lord, Brother, and Friend.

For instance:
"You are fairer than the sons of men:
Grace is poured upon your lips...
You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
Therefore God, your God, has anointed You with the OIL OF GLADNESS more than your companions."
Psalm 45:2,7

Did Jesus laugh? More than any other human that ever existed!!
I bet you He had a 'wicked' sense of humor too!! Wait, that's probably the wrong word to use here, isn't it?!
If only we could grasp how extra ordinary and and super natural Jesus is as both Man and God. It is a mystery! He is approachable; He is... Human... imagine that.

Glad to hear it ministered to you, shittim. Grappling with the personality of Christ is something that we all do from time to time. Between the Gospels and the Epistles, we gain a good knowledge of His Character - as you yourself have stated: gentleness, kindness, forbearance, longsuffering... But what was Jesus like? If He walked into the room... or joined us on the forum... would we notice Him? Be able to identify Him? Or would He blend in? We'd like to think that we would, but perhaps He was so normal that we would walk away from a conversation with Him thinking, "Man, what a nice guy!"?

The Jesus I have come to know is the one who banters with the Syrophonecian woman; who loves to surprise the disciples and has the deepest compassion upon the people... no one could figure Him out. He was - ughm, is - so human, and yet so different!!
For instance, I LOVE the account of Peter talking with the Pharisees, I guess, about Temple Tax in Matthew 17:

Peter has a rather awkward conversation outside and gets himself into a pickle. He's in a situation where they are forced to pay the temple tax, but he knows full well that they have no money. He enters the room nervously. I can almost imagine the conversation going on in Peter's head how he is going to approach the Master about this.
But then it says in vs 25, "Jesus, anticipating him, said..."
Do you think He was serious when he said, "What do you think, Simon?"
Or did He have a wry smile on His face as He knew He was about to put Peter in another award position?

I should imagine He laughed out loud as told Peter to go fishing and find a coin! And laughed even harder at Peter's astonished response? How would you respond if you were in Peter's shoes? "Oh, He's the Christ and this is pretty normal..." It's recorded in Scripture because it was an event that they talked about amongst themselves! They must have ROLLED in laughter when they revisited the memory, especially knowing Peter! --- My goodness! Time and tradition has sucked the LIFE out of the personalities in the Word!! They are so colorful and so... like us!
The fact that the competition between Peter and John is RECORDED in the Bible is enough evidence for me to relate 100% with what went on between them. John ACTUALLY has to record - for time and eternity - that he beat Peter to the grave!

Jesus loved it! He didn't call Pharisees with no sense of humor - He called fishermen who had no regard for formalities. What a blast they must have had! The feuds, the fights, the humor... I mean, Jesus called James and John the "Sons of Thunder".
Do you think they "minded their "p"s and "q"s around Jesus for Him to call them that?!
My Pastor always calls it, "the Raw Reality of God's Humanity!"

Sorry, I got caught up there, but hopefully you could see it come alive as I did...

A Scripture that comes to mind as I write this is from Matthew 11:

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon'.
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a winebibber...!'

If that is how the religious Pharisees perceived Him, I'm drawing the conclusion that Jesus ENJOYED life the the full! And He must have LOVED the taste of food; appreciated it; savoured it... every morsel, every sip... and then finally, at that last Supper, which they had seen Jesus partake of and enter into each and every time... He raises His glass one last time and says to them. "Take and eat; this is My Body... drink, for this is My Blood." Can you imagine the weight in that room after having a history of dining with the Lord, knowing how He enjoyed each meal; the gravity behind that statement?

Jesus has just become more real to me than He ever has been before...

When the disciples wanted to call lightning down on somebody, and later Jesus called them the sons of thunder... Yeah, he has a sense of humor.

Too many Gospel films have Jesus walking around like a depressed emo with the weight of the world on His back. Well, He did but the joy of the Lord is our strength!

I remember seeing one years ago where there was a short bit where Jesus was playing around with the disciples, they rolled around on the ground and stuff. That was a bit more light hearted moment hehe
