In Genesis 3 we read of the Original Temptation of Eve by the Serpent. Some view this as a unique event in the history of mankind, but as I read over these verses, I thought to myself "how much like how Satan uses every day circumstances to trip us up and set us on the wrong path every day."

I thought it might be interesting to discuss both the similarities and the differences of that event back in Eden at what happens in everyday life today.

Genesis
3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food, and that it [was] pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make [one] wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they [were] naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

Hmm
Ive never really eaten something I had been warned might kill me in the garden. But then I hadnt had a snake talking to me either.

If I ever meet one that said this moth plant fruit is delicious, I'd be like no. Ive got plenty of delicious chokos to eat instead.

It got me to wondering if Satan isn't as active right here, right now, as he ever was. Just like you said, Satan does not appear in the form of a Serpent, but might he use other people to play the same sorts of games with our heads? "O, this and that aren't really such bad things", and "Don't worry about it, everbody else is doing it... even 'Christian folk'".

Maybe Adam got to thinking, "Can't be that bad, Eve did it. She's a nice girl".:) Perhaps somethings never change.

Well calculated. The tactics of the enemy have not changed a bit. Eve was enticed by her lusts for;
  1. something pleasing to the flesh
  2. something pleasing to the eye
  3. something to make one wise before others
Written 4,100 years later:
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world" (1st Jn.2:15-16).

I use to think of Heaven as being much like the Garden, but it will be even better because there will be no Satan or forbidden fruit:). CS Lewis anticipated being able to run around naked again:eek:. He will be easy to spot. He'll be sticking out like a sore thumb.:ROFL:

All sin follows the same path as described by James:

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. (James 1:13-15)

TEMPTATION----->LUST------>SIN------>DEATH

God has given Christians the Holy Spirit and therefore "Sin shall not have dominion over you".
