22In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
23If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
Col 1 .
Sadly this verse is used by those that teach conditional salvation as yet another ' proof text . But in context its about ' the hope of the gospel ' not 'moved away from Jesus ' or words to that effect .
The ' hope ' is our blessed hope .
Rom 8 .
22For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
24For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
This is what we can be moved away from . We can't be moved away in the sense of losing salvation. But we can lose sight from our blessed hope . We can be ungrounded and unsettled. We can see that churches have moved away from the hope of the gospel . Little focus is on the return of christ . Its more about christianising the world , and how we can ' improve ' the world ect .
The only real encouragement we can give to our brothers and sisters who are struggling and in doubt ,who are suffering, is to remind them of what's to come. Joy unspeakable. Jesus. Him . His return for the church . This should be what purifies us . This should be our focus . If you are in christ ,you are saved. You are secure..Nothing can change that now . There are many who will try to unsettle you from this . You may have bought into ' conditional salvation/ Lordship salvation your self . But its all to get you unsettled , so that your not grounded and you do move away from the hope of the gospel . The bible is trustworthy . From this alone we will not be moved away, unsettled and we will stay grounded. Reach others with this amazing ' good news ' .
