I read this statement tonight I thought it make for interesting discussion.

Do you agree with this statement or do you disagree?

"The doctrine of divine providence asserts that God is in complete control of all things!"

(oh and please this is not a Arminian Vs Calvinism debate)

Where God's counsel is concerned, yes that's true.

I agree with that. If God is not in control of all things, I would not waste time worshiping such a being.

I like to clarify what I believe: By saying God is in control of all things I do not mean God micromanages everything humans do or interferes with our will to do evil.

Yes as long as you understand, that being in complete control does not necessarily require micromanagement.

The question is a red flag . Its better to stick to the bible and avoid willful assertions from men .

According to the doctrine of the BIBLE God is in complete control of all things. Just because some religion says something right and scriptural- that does not mean everything they say is right and scriptural. I think your intention is really “Do you agree with Divine Providence?” whoever they may be. I agree with the divine Bible.

Hi EG,

Here's a link with a brief explanation. I made sure I gave you a link to an article that agree's with freewill as both sides basically hold to God's providence (with differences obviously lol).

https://www.gotquestions.org/divine-providence.html

Of course you can also read the reformed view here aswell:

Thank you bro

i think this is why I am not thrilled with doctrinal teaching anymore. Points, with a bunch of scripture we think proves that point and conclusions

after reading those two,I basically disagree with both of them lol

I like this quote , which i believe is true.
"God sovereignly decreed that man should be free to exercise moral choice, and man from the beginning has fulfilled that decree by making his choice between good and evil. When he chooses to do evil, he does not thereby countervail the sovereign will of God but fulfills it, inasmuch as the eternal decree decided not which choice the man should make but that he should be free to make it. If in His absolute freedom God has willed to give man limited freedom, who is there to stay His hand or say, 'What doest thou?' Man’s will is free because God is sovereign. A God less than sovereign could not bestow moral freedom upon His creatures. He would be afraid to do so."

The Book of Esther, Doesn't mention God once in it. However, the protection of God is clearly seen or His Providence is seen. God is greatly moving and working in the very lives of His people daily. God has not changed. Still the same.

Maybe the question should be, “Do you think God is sovereign?”

And since sovereign is not found in the Bible, “Define what you mean by sovereign.”

All Christians believe God is sovereign. Don't you?

Hi John146,

Does that mean you don't believe God is Sovereign? You brought the word Sovereign up! I don't know any christians who are fatalists either and yet they absolutely believe God is Sovereign.

Define sovereign.

Is God in complete control of the universe? Yes
Does God cause all actions? No
Does God allow man to make choices? Yes
Can God step in and cause things to happen according to His will? Yes

So you agree God is Sovereign?
If that’s how you define sovereign? Again, I don’t agree with Calvin’s fatalist view...all things have been determined by God and we are just living it out.
