We heard He was there, just a day’s walk away,
The one everyone’s talking about,
The one who heals, if they will just come,
And sit for a moment at His feet.
It’s not so far but he is big, and his mat is heavy too,
That is why they asked me to help.
They know I am strong and work all day long,
That’s the only thing I can do
If we can somehow just get him there,
I know he’ll be healed and made strong,
They told me so; I know it’s true,
It’s the least that we can do.
There are several of us, we can all take turns
Bearing the heavy load
There are hills and rocks and sometimes sand
But we will all do what we can.
I took a corner, this is mine,
You don’t need give me rest,
Help the others, I got this now,
I do it every day.
We were tired and worn, but joyfully learned,
He was there, amid the din and the crush,
We couldn’t get close, there was no way,
To get him through the door.
Some wanted to stop, but we struggled along,
There had to be some other way,
Remember the Healer, he said we should come,
And that’s what we all should do.
Someone said the roof, is the way,
So we lifted him up and we dug,
It took all our strength as we lowered him down,
While the Healer looked through the dust and smiled.
He saw our faith and healed our friend,
I don’t know how He did,
But some were angry, red and stern,
When he danced around the room.
All the way home he carried his mat,
I never saw such strength.
He danced and spun and jumped and praised,
In joy that was wonderous and free.
My friend lives his life every day since then,
With glory, praise and prayer.
I work but pause every once in a while,
Just to remember that dusty grin.
