Good morning everyone. So glad Monday is over with! I worked 10 hours yesterday and delivered 162 packages. I usually only deliver that many packages during the Christmas season and on average (not during the Christmas season) I used to deliver around 70-80 packages a day. Times have changed! No breaks, no lunch, just pedal to the metal if I expect to get done before 10 hours now.

10 hour shifts sounds hectic. What distance do you travel in a day @mailmandan ?

10-12 miles. All depends on whether or not I have to back track or swing back by the office to pick up late arriving packages.

Retirement countdown keeps ticking away.

There's just enough time for you to get ready for retirement too.

My days of working for someone else for a paycheck are numbered as well...but my clock is somewhat uncertain... arthritis might get me at any time. Part of the game.

Now that in no fashion means that I get to stop working. LOL...if only. It just means that the work shifts to other activities.
And if you want to live... you must do the same. Most guys die within 2 years of retirement...some even less.
A few fishing trips and travel vacations aren't enough. You and I both need work. (Work is good believe it or not)

I'm going to do some farming and start a line of jams and jellies...also some charcuterie of pork products. (Bacon and sausages)

High end products like these...they really don't make a lot of profits but they do make the store bought stuff taste like dirt. And some people can definitely taste the difference and be forever changed.

You can have whatever you want for work...one of those custom cars built from scratch that you sell, building boats, leather crafts, and mission projects. Whatever you want to do.

But with your skills...at the least you should get your CDL class B with an F endorsement so you can drive the Church Bus... IMHO.... you definitely got the skills for it.

I have a class B CDL. I still plan of working part time after I retire from the Post Office doing something I enjoy until I reach the age of 62.

Well between Dan's discription of a 10 hour day and what I saw with the FedEx guy yesterday I just can't help but wonder
how many hours are actually spent doing the deliveries??????
(Not aiming at Dan though...... just observations round my area)

Yesterday I got to the Dr.'s office and the FedEX guy was there.
I sat down, started working on paper work while listening in on the loud enough to be heard even if your not trying to overhear conversation between Mr. FedEX and receptionist.
Mr. FedEX made a comment about his route taking minimum of 12 hours.
It was one of those times my mouth filter wasn't turned on and before I know it what I was thinking in my mind was verbal for those around to hear
My verbal thought was "Gee, wonder how many hours are actully spent loading. driving, and delivering?"
He was like "What? I spend my whole day delivering packages!" (seemed a little ticked)
me (thinking to self WITHOUT verbal comment): "oooopppssss! Look what you got yourself into"
me (comment back): "Well, I've been here 15 minutes and you were here chit chatting when I came in.......
15 minutes here..... 15 minutes at the three stops before here....... OH! there's an hour. "
Mr. FedEX looked stunned, like a deer caught in head lights.
Thankfully they called me back

Blessed. Everyday blessed.
Which I have to smile when I say that because there was a time in my life ( a very very long time) when I didn't realize that and the days were hard, and what seemed like no big deal to others seemed to overwhelm and break me
It's amazing what God can do!!!!!
Still have some of those same overwhelming situations and days, but Gods grace is sufficent.

I did a little calculating and that's an average of only 3.7 minutes per package.
