Philippians 4:18
I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.

Romans 5:2
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

The fragrance is a reality in the Christian Church! Is not a figure of speech! The Christians in the Bible felt it, the Christians during Roman persecution felt it too and Christians in 2021 can still feel this fragrance. Because God is the same.

///God already revealed him as a holy man when, at his death, his body released a pleasant myrrh-like smell._//
( minus the ' burning ' , my mistake )
Although the ' burnt ' sacrifices would have given a scent . I think its a sweet smelling sacrifice to God in this ' type ' ,but not literally.
Your LOSS if you don't believe literally.

Fragrance is not felt. It is detected by the nose.

These scriptures are not talking about body odour.

Fragrance is felt by the nose. The fragrance is indicative of the presence of God.

You are twisting a Scripture verse to say something it doesn't mean. It doesn't even make sense.
I am not twisting scripture! I base what I say on Scripture and you don't like that.
Have you ever heard of the expression 'sweet Jesus'? I know you have. Well, I assure you that this is not just a mere expression, this is not poetry, this is the REALITY. And if you have never felt the sweet presence of Jesus than I feel very very sorry for you! I pray to God you will!

Yes i am sure we all know the expression. But when people use it, its not to say we are able to smell Jesus.

Its just like when people refer to eachother as sweetie.

No if you did that you'd agree with what Romans says and not false doctrine.

Sweet Jesus is a man made term, and it has nothing to do with scent. I believe you're very sincere, you're just sincerely wrong. Sorry.

I don't feel like starting an argument over what you said. We both know you didn't read neither the sermon, nor the link you provided, which makes your comment shallow and biased.
If you are talking to me, I did read what you posted, and also read an overview of what the Information I provided had to say. The main point is that this person was Roman Catholic, and, rather than be abrasive about the false teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, i simply said "to each his own." It is called "free will." God gives all mankind the free will to choose between the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus the Christ and the various false teachings from various false religions put forth by mankind.

If you believe in and are a member of the Roman Catholic Church, then all I can do is pray that God will, through the Holy Spirit, reveal to you the TRUTH of the Gospel before it is too late.

I literally believe the bible literally. I've also heard David Pawson where he says he saw someone's ' devil ' tattoo come off during water baptism. Now this supports his teaching that Water baptism ' scrubs ' away your sins and your old life . Not quite baptismal regeneration but almost . He believes only your past sins are forgiven and ' cleaned through the waters of baptism . I don't care for the story because the teaching is completely false ,so I doubt the story . During the tribulation the anti christ performs miracles. Lying signs and wonders . So many will fall for this ,because they are drawn to these ' experiences ' .

The Bible talks about the fragrance. Yes or no?
St. John Chrysostom and the martyrs I spoke about were not contemporaries with Jesus Christ or Saint Paul which is why... you won't find them in the Bible...

You read but you don't understand.
What happens with these tenuous links is people take an experience and try make it fit somewhere in the bible. Like a partial verse or a loose connection to something in the bible. Your taking the death of a person who you say his body released a smell of myrrh, to mean this is a sign that he must have been holy ect. Then to confirm this you make the tenuous link to some verses that use the term ' sweet smelling aroma aroma to God ' ect . Now with this ,we can almost take any experience and say see look there's a verse ,if you squint your eye just right you can see that ..... oh I know this experience has never happened in the bible, but I was there and I saw ....."

I gave you the understanding of the verses you were using to support your experience. They clearly show that they do not mean ,at all, the way in which you used them .

What? That a holy man's body releases myrrh-like smell?

There you go:
Ephessians 5:2 and Philippians 4:18. The word use for the pleasant myrrh like smell is fragrance.
No I meant in the context you gave.
Eph 5
2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

This is Jesus himself . " given himself for us" .

phil 4 18

But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.

This isn't the same thing as you said?
When we die our bodies are not a sacrifice to God . They will be redeemed yes ( Rom 8 23 ) ' the adoption ' . But no ones flesh is smelling like mrryh . No verse says this .

I DID NOT say that when WE die, our bodies are a sacrifice to God. Again, you show your dishonesty which is why I do not wish to continue discussing with you. If you really cared to understand what I was talking about, you would have made a minimum effort to understand. I assume you are an adult and it's not my obligation to spoon-feed you.

Good bye!

You're wrong. You're using Scripture to try and back extra Biblical teachings. This man was not any more holy than the next man. I don't care what he "smelled" like, no one is higher than anyone else. The Bible says God is no respecter of persons. We are all level at the foot of the cross. This man had hatred in his heart. Now you can argue till the cows come home, but you're arguing against the Word of God. You will never win an argument like that.
