I would like to hear about what one of your favorite verses in the Bible is and why. One of my favorite verses is: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28) I like it because all things includes good things AND bad things, work together for good to them that love God,

1 Corinthians 10:13KJV
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

1 Corinthians 2:9KJV
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

Hi @jewely, I love different verses for different reasons. I'll start off with one of my very favorites about salvation.

John 3
16 God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
This verse kind of has it all :) It tells us who will be saved (anyone who "believes"), what we need to do to be saved (believe) and Who we need we need to believe in, as well one of the big reasons that God chose to save us.

God bless you!

~Deut

p.s. - if the Lord tarries, and if we have the money, I think that John 3:16 is the verse that I would like to have written on my tombstone.

Hello again Jewely, in case you haven't read it before, pastor/theologian Charles Spurgeon has a great quote that is based on some of his thoughts about Romans 8:28 :) Please see his quote below.

"More than that, we rejoice in our suffering, knowing that suffering produces perseverance and perseverance produces character and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." Romans 5:3-5

I also like Romans 8:28-30, Proverbs 3:5-6, Matt 11:28-30; Phil. 1:6; Romans 12:1-2; Psalm 23, and many other verses!

Finally (@jewely), at least for now, here is a second, and I believe complimentary, verse about salvation (as both it and John 3:16 give us insights into salvation that the other verse does not). I LOVE this verse as well :)

John 5
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, ~has~ eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

Is it not simply AMAZING how many important truths the Lord has packed into this single verse for us, starting with His choice to open up with, "Truly, truly" or "Verily, verily" or "Amen, amen" (depending on your translation), which is the Lord telling us to sit up and pay special attention to everything that He is about to say

The next thing I noticed was that this verse includes not just one, but two Members of the Godhead, and that all the Lord Jesus tells us about salvation is actually coming directly from His Father .. cf John 12:49-50.

V24 also tells us what we need to do to receive "eternal life" (hear and believe), and that we are granted "~eternal~ life" from the very moment that we first believe (ἔχω/"has eternal life" is in the Greek present tense, which speaks, in this case, of both a present and an ongoing possession [of eternal life] by both new and old believers alike :)).

Next we learn that Christians will not stand in the Judgment (or be condemned) with unbelievers at the end of the age (@ the Great White Throne .. e.g. Revelation 20:11-15).

Finally, the Lord confirms that those who hear and believe have come to possess "~eternal~ life" because all who truly believe have (ALREADY) passed from death to life ("has passed", which is in the perfect tense, speaks of 1. a completed action with 2. continuing results (y)(y)).

Like I said, there is a LOT that is packed into that verse :giggle:

God bless you!

It's hard to pick just one verse. It's usually several together or sometimes whole chapters

One of my favourites:

Isaiah 60: 1-3 (NIV)

‘Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
2 See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.
3 Nations will come to your light,

and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

Dear Angela 53510, this quote reminds me of Joni Earekson Tada. She once said she wouldn't even want to not be a quadraplegic because it brought her so close to the Lord.

I have severe Rheumatoid Disease. It is painful, deforming and crippling. I've had it for 25 years. Once, when I wanted to give up, God gave me this passage. I memorized it, and my whole life makes sense. I praise God for how he has used RD to polish and change me, because/or in spite of RA.

Hi Aldg19, this verse always reminds me of the unborn babies in the womb. Keith Green had a song about them each being handmade by Jesus. How can people not see their humanity in ultrasounds?

I don't think that I could honestly name a favorite verse, but I believe that the second psalm is probably my favorite portion of scripture in the Bible because it prophetically told of Christ's crucifixion, resurrection from the dead, and what will transpire at his second coming.

It's also one of several places in the Old Testament where we're privileged to hear a conversation between Jesus Christ and God the Father.
