Does Philippians 4:13 turn us into super-believers?
On the Internet I found the following quotation: "If God says that I can, then I can! I will go and fear no evil". To aver this, they relied on Philippians 4.13.
However, this is a terrible and dangerous perversion of Philippians 4.13. What Paul wanted to say is that, if we are in Christ (hearing His voice and taking pleasure in His presence - Psalms 37.4), He will able us to go through all circumstances without letting us stagger in the faith (see Philippians 4.11,12 to see the context). In other words:
• if we have all the good and the best, we will not give ourselves to the pleasures, we will not forget the poor and needy, nor abandon Him or deny His name;
• If we are going through severe circumstances, we do not move into the world of crime, what will cause the name of Jesus Christ to be blasphemed among incredulous for our sake (see Romans 2.24).
