What does Proverbs 27:20 mean?

20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

Does it mean sin is never satisfied? I believe so.

20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
21 There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

Yeah, you go it. Men's sinful desires know no end. The flesh goes after fleshly things. Nothing inherently good about people. So Jesus' sacrifice and payment for sins is magnified.

There is an emptiness in the heart of man. He tries in vain to fill the void. The tragedy is that very few will admit that they are sinners. If they did, God would save them. God put that emptiness there. Only He can fill it. Even the most noble person is a sinner. How many achieve their goals in life, only to find that they are still not satisfied!

Whatever is not of faith is sin (Romans 14:23). Who has not fallen over that hurdle? I know someone hugely successful now. I worked with him for a few years when he first left university. That was about 25 years ago. He's gone much further in his career than I ever could. He lives the dream life. Yet he is not satisfied. And he won't be until he accepts Christ. He's not a "bad" person. He is a sinner. Countless "good" people will find themselves shut out of heaven. I wish it were different, but that is the choice that people make.

Gives a picture of lots of elbow room and space. At judgment the wicked enter complete darkness, and though there are billions and billions of souls suffering punishment, there is no comfort from one to another, and all you hear for eternity is weeping and gnashing of teeth, including your own. As Jesus made clear: there are many that find the broad way through the wide gate on their way to everlasting destruction.

There is plenty of room in Hell. But God does not desire the damnation of anyone.

To me it looks like the word hell is translated to mean "the grave." As in literally buried in the dirt. People get buried in the dirt and their bodies are destroyed through decay.

So this passage means that it's a forgone conclusion that everyone dies and it's a forgone conclusion that everyone is a sinner. In short, people die in sin.

The best we can get here in this life is repentance (having a changed mind) with a born again spirit that hungers and thirsts for righteousness. That being said, born again Christians still sin, maybe much more than they realize.

I think it's not a good attitude to reach a point to think we are not sinners or are justified in sinning now. Like always, God is still displeased with sin, and always will be, even when Christians sin.

Having the correct attitude about our sin is actually very important because God is actively monitoring, day and night without rest, everything about us from our thoughts, feelings, what we look at, who we talk to, when you're hungry, when you're bored. He sees everything.

The Hebrew word for "man" here is used early to refer to Adam in KJV and NIV. Reasonably, this "man" is the first Adam in each of us that is not the last Adam (Christ).

Sheol is often seen as an equivalent to Hades.
