I know there are about a zillion different Baptist denominations, but I was wondering if someone who knows a lot about Baptists might be able to answer a question.

I know generally speaking most Baptists believe in eternal security (Except Free Will Baptists, I know they don't). Is this belief in eternal security rooted in the belief in predestination. In other words, are most Baptists Calvinists?

Most baptists I know might agree with 3 points of Calvinism, but reject limited atonement and irresistible grace.

I'm part of an independent missionary baptist church.. altho that is a label..

We would reject calvinism but believe in eternal security and assurance of salvation.

So.. someone can resist Gods call for them to receive initial salvation.. but after receiving salvation by grace thru faith in Christ.. it cannot be undone.

This is neither calvinism nor arminianism.

Many many IFB churches have a very similar teaching.

Baptists that embrace calvinisim are generally reformed, primitive, or connected with the reformation.. I.e. came out of it.

But like you say... there are a whole lot of different kinds.

No. Reformed Baptists (an oxymoron) are a minority among Baptists (just like Seventh Day Baptists). Baptists and Anabaptists were persecuted by the Reformers, but somewhere along the way, some of them were infected with the virus of Calvinism.

It seems that not too long ago the Southern Baptist Convention jumped on the bandwagon of Calvinism. Now they have jumped on the bandwagon of Wokeism. Always one fad or another,

John the Baptist was not a Calvinist and John Calvin was not a Baptist, (but neither was he a Presbyterian).

The baptists I know ( I was one for 3 years) would not know. Foundational truth is lacking these days. Either the church is traditional and dead or modern and entertains rather than teaches. I have never bothered with denominations or "isms". I was saved in the RAN (Australian Navy) and I traveled all over SE Asia, Japan, Hong Kong and Hawaii. I did not have a lot of choice, so I went to church wherever I could, whenever I could. Whatever label they wear, there is not a lot of difference and certainly nothing that we should go to war over.

Jesus saves, not our pet doctrines. I assume that whoever I am speaking to is potentially predestined. I don't know, God knows so I am obliged to witness when I can. It's not right to write off those who reject me either. God often has to prepare the heart of a person before they can receive the word.
