Elessiastes 12: 12-14
12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Studying Scripture should make us more like Christ. Knowledge alone puffs up and makes a person proud.

The person who studies the Word and lives it out daily in His life is a powerful tool for the glory of God!

I don't think much of MacArthur but that's another story I guess

you know, the Bible tells us to renew our minds...according to the word...so knowledge and the wisdom or practicality of how to apply it, is certainly a 'godly' pursuit

we renew our minds to agree with God.

I'd have to agree with MacArthur when he says, the ultimate goal. Knowledge is a two-edged sword. As Chester said it can puff up; but it can also make us wise with Godly wisdom. Having knowledge is good, but knowledge for its own sake isn't.

This site can be a marvelous help to us in our study, but only when we do our own checking out of posts with our own search of scripture to verify that the post reflects the Lord accurately. The holy spirit has spoken to other Christians, we can learn from each other.

But this site can be a downer if it is used incorrectly. If we are misunderstood, or we feel the Lord we love is misunderstood, it is easy to feel like doing what our Savior explained is the same as murdering them. Instead of using the site to learn, study, forgive and understand, we use the site to sin.

Part of bible study is to gain knowledge plus other things.

Col 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
Col 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Col 1:11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

1Ti 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
1Ti 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
1Ti 4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

I like your post, but I don't think much of Johnny Mac. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. ;)
