28 “I want you to know that people can be forgiven for all the sinful things they do. They can even be forgiven for the bad things they say against God. 29 But anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. They will always be guilty of that sin.”

30 Jesus said this because the teachers of the law had accused him of having an evil spirit inside him.

I never seen that BHS was in fact claiming Jesus was demon possessed.

in the text, it seems they were saying Jesus was healed by the power of the devil therefore Jesus is saying you are equating the work of the Holy Spirit to that of the devil, which is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

The blasphemy was saying the work of the Holy Spirit actually originated from Satan. This works both ways. When a false prophet or false worker of miracles claims his satanic work is actually form the Holy Spirit, this too is blasphemy.

The real [issue] here about placing a Demon or Satan equal to the Holy Spirit, is that Christ was doing [GOOD], not bad. He was doing things for the Kingdom, His Own Kingdom. Through the Power of the Holy Spirit, He was enabled to complete WORK for the Kingdom of God. And the Pharisees called this Kingdom Work through the Holy Spirit, demonic. And Christ explained, you claim the things I do is from the Power of Satan, when it comes from the Most High Power of God? That is Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and a punishable sin that can [never] be forgiven!


They said Christ performed Miracles by Satan, when it was by the Holy Spirit. They equaled Satan to the Holy Spirit!

I take the position that those who spoke against Jesus here may not have committed the unpardonable sin at this moment in time. It sounds possible that Jesus could have been warning them of the unpardonable sin. It was still blasphemy and that blasphemy I believe spoke something about how hard their hearts were toward Christ.

The reason it is not forgiven is the Holy Spirit has/HAD, 2000 some odd years of work ahead, Jesus was saying you can mock and lie God or His son (Jesus) but if you lie about the works of the Holy Spirit you will not be forgiven. Thus everyone should be very careful calling out people of God as fake when they heal in Jesus' name, if you do not know, BE SILENT.

I would have to disagree with your point of view. It’s not unforgivable to say something was a fake healing if the healing turns out to not be fake. However if you don’t know if a healing was real or not, you should not try to say either way if the healing was real or not. To do so would seem dishonest.

The topic of the unpardonable sin is a source of anxiety for many who question if they committed it. To anyone struggling with that question I want to encourage that Jesus loves you and can forgive you of any sin. You are not unforgivable. God’s grace can meet you wherever you are.

When these Pharisees were accusing Jesus of doing miracles by the power of Beelzebub, they were (in a sense) calling the Holy Spirit unclean or evil. IMO, that's a grave sin in the eyes of God.


We ought to be careful with our words and thoughts so that we do not equate the person or work of the Holy Spirit with demons or Satan. We just might be falling into a dangerous trap if we do.

I think that is an addition to what is already said. the context is equating what IS clearly a work of the Holy Spirit to that of the devil.


Jesus said Believe me for my works sake. The Holy Spirit manifestation through Jesus by healing could never be seen as a work of the devil. Yet the Pharisees were saying in Matthew 12:31-32 and Mark 3:28-29 that Jesus was healed by the power of the devil.

The Devil doesn't heal. he kills, steals, and destroys. The Pharisees only said their because they were angry that people were saying this is the Son of David. Jesus then admonished them. The devil doesn't heal people, the devil doesn't raise the dead, the devil doesn't save. Light cannot be darkness the Holy Spirit cannot do evil. and the devil cannot do good.

Holy Spirit , my understanding of Holy spirit meaning forgive everyone , and hope all get saved. if someone against these is a sin.

Check out Romans 8:26

This is quite simple: God grants repentance from sin (Godly sorrow leads to repentance). We cannot continually blaspheme the Holy Spirit (that’s what the phrase means: to continue in perpetuity) and also respond with repentance for the sin. We become blind and callous to the Spirit’s work on our hearts.

Matthew 23 is a great example of what comes from continuously blaspheming the Spirit of God. The Jewish leaders were blind to the work of God in their history and they spread their bitterness to the people.
Jesus concludes the chapter with the only way they could repent:

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say,‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”
