First, here is the foundation of the renewed mind.

Romans 6:7...

"He that is DEAD, is freed from SIN"...

So If you are born again, then your old man, the carnal nature, the sin nature, is "crucified with Christ".= "reckon this OLD MAN dead to sin, but alive to Christ".

This literally means that you , the new creation...... is no longer the old sin nature, because you have been been born again as "the righteousness of God, in Christ".
Your born again Spirit, is "One with God", and Christ is in you, in your born again Spirit, having become joined with your Spirit.
This joining <> this Spiritual Union, is who you have become as a "new Creation", forever.

So, real Christianity is this...Ephesians 4:24.....>"""And that YOU put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness""

See that "new man"? That is the renewed mind that understands that this is the real you, and not the "dead man" that is "crucified with Christ".
So, when you are thinking about sinning, and worrying about confessing, then you are WEARING, .. you have put back on the "OLD MAN", IN YOUR FAITH.....which is the WRONG MIND. That is the "Mind of the FLESH" or the "natural mind"., and that mind is "enmity against God and cannot understand the Grace of God or the things of God as they are Spiritually Discerned" by the renewed mind, only.
SO, THAT IS a broken faith, or, its to have never yet understood that you are the new man, the "New Creation" and you are to exist as "putting on the New man".
Thats REAL FAITH and that real faith allows GOD to empower you to live a perfected discipleship.

---------------------------------------------------

Now, how to stop sinning.
Sinning happens because you have sin consciousness.
This is kept in your thinking, in your mind, for only one reason.
Your mind, your FAITH, and your belief system, is not recognizing that you , the born again Spirit, the new creation.....the REAL YOU< is as righteous as God at all times, made so by the blood of Jesus and the "Gift of righteousness"
Let me say that again. When you are born again, your spirit has become Joined to GOD, in Spiritual Union, and so your born again spirit that is the real you, is as holy as God, made so by the blood of Jesus and the ""Gift of righteousness.:""

And you say......."i dont feel like that".

Saint, being born again is not a feeling. Its a FACT of the new birth. So, if you really want to stop sinning and confessing and walk instead in this...."Christ always gives me the Victory" .. over the flesh, the world and the devil, then what you have to do, is get your mind of faith right.
You have to begin to only and always see yourself as the new creation, made righteous.
You have to live in the correct mind of faith that understands that you are now a NEW CREATION, and this means you have been given as a GIFT, God's very righteousness as who have become.

Let me show you a truth.
God is in you, right now, if you are born again.
He only sees you as righteous, because HE caused this to be who you have become and who you forever remain, as "in Christ", "made righteous", "the righteousness of God in Christ".

If you can find your way to this TRUTH, then you have found the Grace of God that will empower you to walk in the Spirit, as this... Paul teaches....."As many as be perfect". Philippians 3:15.

Saint, walking in holiness...... is to understand you have become God's very righteousness, and in this understanding is the renewed mind found.
Once you only see yourself as "made righteous", then you will find that by resting in this truth = finds you living in the freedom from everything that is causing you to sin and confess.

I am wondering about those who say they suffer from addictions.

Like they tell themselves, I am a drinker or I am a smoker. And they say this to other people as well. Like its their identity.

Instead, shouldnt they tell themseves and others that they dont smoke, and they dont drink? Or would that be lying? And if their body is craving whatever, they can say, well the flesh wants this, but I put to death the flesh and I am in spirit and my spirit is free. It does not need what the flesh wants!

When Jesus was fasting in the wilderness, and he was hungry, the devil offered him STONES to eat. Yet Jesus refused. Even though he was hungry. And his tummy was probably growling him.

How was he able to stop himself from eating stones? Cos He knew that He was going to be getting spiritual food.

So, real Christianity is this...Ephesians 4:24
No, real Christianity is this:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

That's it. There's nothing else. It's never dependent on our behavior. If that was the case, we would all be doomed.

Instead, the Lord Jesus makes it clear:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Mat. 5:3

Dr. Thomas Constable remarks about this passage:

The “poor in spirit” are those who recognize their natural unworthiness to stand in God’s presence and who depend utterly on Him for His mercy and grace.

I agree and think that sums it up pretty well. That's me because I can't rely on my behavior.

And even when my behavior for one day is perfect, no one but God can hear my thoughts. And they are always bad.

I agree with Paul. We should put on the new man. But it's still a "put-on."

We are dependent solely on Christ for our salvation. And Paul never suggested otherwise.

You're not wrong for bringing this passage up. But I feel like you've fallen into the trap that many church leaders get snared in. It's the notion that if we just act like better Christians, we can prove that we really are Christians. But you and I know that's false doctrine.

There are a few other things I would like to address. But this reply is long enough. I will reply later.

Even with my criticism, I do believe you've crafted an excellent post. :)

I am wondering about those who say they suffer from addictions.
Addiction , (chemical) is a result of causing the body to adapt to something you are putting into it.
You cause the body to function in an adaptive way, that harms it, because the bodies chemistry now uses this chemical.
Take the chemical away, and the body reacts. This reaction is the addiction.

My Thread is regarding how to stop sinning.
Perhaps you can post something that is related to the Thread?

Your post is describing what causes Christianity to exist, which is a good Thread's topic.
My Thread is explaining how to exist in what Christ has provided as Grace, so that you can stop sinning and confessing, Steve.

So, to stop sinning, is perfected discipleship, achieved.
Perfected discipleship is this.....>"The fullness of the Stature of Christ".
Heretics, who are usually water baptized, but not actually born again.....always teach that this isn't possible, and for them, that's true.

To exit "sin consciousness"...is found by learning to exist in the Grace of God, that is to stop existing in the wrong mind that is wrong faith or broken faith.
This is discovered exactly where the mind of real faith, begins, and that is to understand that the born again Spirit, is God's righteousness, as the Real You.........= a "new Creation" in Christ.

Now, how to stop sinning.
Here are all the ways we sin:

  • We sin when we drive a mile/km over the speed limit
  • We sin when we get angry at the cashier
  • We sin when we fudge on our taxes
  • We sin when we show the other driver "who's boss"
  • We sin when we look at that young woman in the short skirt a little too long
  • We sin when we gossip about that new person in the church
  • We sin when secretly hope our neighbor's new truck breaks down
  • We sin when we condemn other people for sinning
  • We sin when we take a long time to forgive
  • We sin when we worry
  • We sin when we horde what's really God's property
And on it goes. In fact, there's no limit to our sin.

And I understand your frustration with those who feel like it's okay to keep sinning because they know they'll be forgiven.

I've been on the receiving end of that. I had two Christian people hurt me intentionally. It was so bad, I lost my wife, my son, my business, and my home. And it was all out of spite for little ol' me. It was the most horrible thing I've ever been through.

And both had the nerve to say they would pray for me. Keep in mind that they were the ones who wrecked my life. And now they were asking God to help me fix it.

The hypocrisy of that is reprehensible.

My point is, even Christians sin. Yes, even pastors. Even elders. Even really good people like you.

One final thought

Pastor Jeff Schrieve has an amazing sermon series about sin. He says that our attitude should be that we should no longer want to sin. It's not that we won't. It's just that we should hate it as much as God does.

Just my two cents

Sinning happens because you have sin consciousness.
No, sinning happens because I choose to sin

New Testament scholar Dr. Bill Mounce gives this advice to Christians who want to move forward in their walk with the Lord:

"Confess [your sins] early, confess them often, and confess them fully."

He says that we should confess our sins without excuse directly to the Father in the name of Jesus.

Only then can we be fully free from that sin and become more effective for the Kingdom.

I would like to add one more thing

As mature Christians, we sin differently than newer (baby) Christians.

Before, we would plan our sins. For example:

  • Making sure we had enough in the debit card to make monthly payments to our favorite porn site
  • Make sure our spouse was unaware of that side romance
  • Develop plans to sabotage someone at work
  • Hunt down that driver who just cut us off
Now, we as mature Christians sin differently:

  • We let that occasional "S" word or "F" word slip
  • We forget who we are and go off on someone
  • We go along without moving on from temptation
  • We stare at that pretty person just a little longer than we should
  • We gossip without realizing it
The list is endless. The point is, even as mature Christians, we sin.

I think the hardest part of being a follower of Christ is that I'm becoming more sensitive to my sin every day.

I'm just grateful that one day I will no longer be tormented by it.

Knowing that I am the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ and that the Father no longer looks on me as a sinner helps.

And one more thing.

Laziness is also a sin.

I should have backed the last reply with scripture. Too late.

So, yet another thing to confess to my Father today.

Anyone who claims to be without sin is a liar and the word is not in him

There is a difference between those who sin without restraint saying God will forgive me and those who actively seek him but fall short.
Do you know what the problem is with actively trying to not sin? it has the opposite effect. The more you attempt to rid yourself of sin the more you see yourself as a sinner and the more rotten fruit you produce, And trust me I know from experience there was a time when I tried so hard to not sin but in my weakness I just kept falling short it got to the point where I didn't see a child of God I saw a filthy disgusting worm who shouldn't even dare ask for forgiveness.

That was perhaps the hardest and most damaging storm I had ever gone through but God reminded me that Jesus died so that I don't have to try to live up to such expectations he only asks that I love and him and understand that I was enough for him nothing more nothing less.

We complicate matters that should not be made complicated it is a simple truth and a life giving one.
The very fact that this thread exists saddens me people seem to have forgotten that child like love and relationship with him the joy of just loving and living for himthe wonder of not having to wonder if we are sinners or not only knowing we are his child who he loves dearly.

For those who know this love they don't burden themselves whether they are enough or not, whether they are sinning or not because they honestly don't worry about such things the spirit is alive in them they have such a life giving love in them because they like children don't complicate things they just live each day in his love

If you can find your way to this TRUTH, then you have found the Grace of God that will empower you to walk in the Spirit, as this... Paul teaches....."As many as be perfect". Philippians 3:15.

Saint, walking in holiness...... is to understand you have become God's very righteousness, and in this understanding is the renewed mind found.
Once you only see yourself as "made righteous", then you will find that by resting in this truth = finds you living in the freedom from everything that is causing you to sin and confess.
I don't disagree that we are to renew our thinking daily and that we are to resist mightily. I am still looking, but have you found anyone that has become sinless in this flesh?

Look for the triggers aka temptations to sin. When you notice those red flags do the right thing.

Also, as God for wisdom and his filling by the Holy Spirit. I base this on the text that says with temptation God provides an escape. Use the temptations to look for the escape path.

Amen

We sin when we worry
We sin when we doubt
We sin when we are anxious
We sin when we say anything glorifying anything or anyone but God
We sin when our thoughts aren't towards Him
We sin when we lack trust
We sin when we lack hope
We sin when we think too highly of ourselves
We sin when we accuse others without cause
We sin when we out ourselves above others
We sin whenever we don't do what we know we ought to

Etc etc etc

We sin when we worry
We sin when we doubt
We sin when we are anxious
So in Christ there is no sin.
Do we have a view of Him in the garden and on the cross where we think He was full of fear, doubt, anxiety, worry and lack of faith or belief?
If we do, we are attributing sin to Him.

We need to have the right view.

believing in Christ is the key. Do you believe all Christ tells us? How about that eternal life is worth working for? How about repenting? Do you believe Christ enough to base your very life on it?

Although Christ said we are to be perfect, Christ knew we sinned. Paul said he did what he determined not to do. Christ made allowances for that. Christ said to repent. Christ never once said "do not sin". Christ loves us and only asks repentance and that is not wanting to sin.

Some Christians are against repentance for they say they do sin being human, so why repent? That is the world's way, not the way of Christ.

When the world teaches people to play at sports, they always teach how to be perfect knowing that perfection is impossible. When Christ teaches us ho to live they say that Christ should not teach perfection because we can't be perfect. They don't complain about the sport coaches, and yell bloody murder about the coaching of Christ.

amen, yes, and even Paul spoke as a sports coach, saying "run the race as though to win" -- even if you know you cannot place first.

you're right; somehow i can fence with all my heart even when i know i won't win the tournament, and i should have the same attitude towards my walk with God, to strive with all my heart to do everything in righteousness, regardless of the fact i know i will fail on many points. the certainty of my falling short should not affect my ambition

1 John 1:10

Thanks for bringing this scripture to light.

There is a difference between those who sin without restraint saying God will forgive me and those who actively seek him but fall short.
I find that the people in the first group last a very short time before they completely forget about the Lord.

The second group understands their continuous need for him.

I'm glad I finally joined the second group.
