10:10 PM here in Bama......
I am grateful to be here. Folks in the States who keep up on weather events know that yesterday and through the night, we had huge amounts of rain. Flooding was widespread, and proved deadly. So far, there are 4 fatalities.
Here in my area, and I mean IN MY AREA, two people died. A young girl (infant) drowned when the car she was in was swept away when the driver tried to cross a flooded creek on a road that was partially washed away. The adults got out, but the young girl did not. That event was about 11 miles from my homestead.
A young man, 18, drowned as well. He was from Guntersville, which is were I go fishing all the time. I do not yet know the particulars of his tragedy, but I pray for his family, friends; as I do for the family of the young girl.
Many roads were washed out, partially collapsed across my mountain top, all around me, and bridges were destroyed as well. Arab, where the worst of the flooding occurred, is where I go shopping....Walmart, Dollar General, doing laundry and such. It is about 6 miles from me.
The rainfall totals ranged from 6 to 10 inches. At my front door, I got 7.5 inches. The Union Grove area, where my Post Office is, got 9 inches. Arab got between 6 to 10 inches in different spots around the City/surrounding communities. They were on a "boil water" alert because of the flooding.
You don't often think of flooding problems on a mountain top, but yesterday proved just how possible it is, and just how dangerous.
Still, even during the worst of the storms, about midnight last night, I was praising God BECAUSE there were no tornadoes, or seriously dangerous winds. We did have wind between 15 to 25 MPH, but not dangerous and destructive winds. PTL!
