This cracked me up. lol I learn the same way. But my aunt gave me enough instruction to make a poke cake, which I hadn't tried before. It's now a family favorite. I feel bad that I have no written recipes from my grandmother, she kept it all in her head too. She passed when I was a young teen, before I realized that a hand written recipe from her would be something a would treasure. I'm sure your kids will appreciate your effort.

The Washington Post explained today that people need to just quit whining about not being able to get what they want and simply lower their expectations. The same whiny people who mocked CNN for saying the protests were "mostly peaceful" as a police station burned in the background and people were looting a liquor store. Lower your expectations!

These are the same ones who are posting videos of thieves walking out of Walgreens with garbage bags full of stuff trying to fear monger. Let's get real, the thieves are careful not to exceed the limit of what they can legally steal, they use calculators (no one is so naive as to think they could do the calculations themselves). And the Walgreens that are closing down is it really because of the theft or is it because of poor management? Lower your expectations!

These are probably the same Karen's complaining about a woman being raped on a crowded subway train. What are women supposed to be able to go to work without fear of being raped in public? Lower your expectations!

Whining about Biden giving over our airbase and fully equipping the Taliban with state of the art military equipment and a pallet of cash. Lower your expectations!

Whining about an estimated 2 million illegals flooding our border and being flown all over the country. What are we supposed to do, build a wall? Lower your expectations!

The trucks delivering food from the Local farms to your farmers market need tires to work! If it takes 6 months to 2 years to get new tires you may need to drive to the farm to get the food. This is true of all car parts.

Although local farms will supply food in the summer much of your winter food comes from abroad.

Also, even if you have been faithful to only buy local produce, many of your neighbors have not, when the local grocery store has empty shelves they also will go to the farmer's market.

My little white dog in my avatar was born down in the country. We visit the people who own her momma from time to time. We went before the Rona hit and they mentioned out of nowhere that if we needed meat they knew where we could get a side of beef etc. When we left I kind of laughed and said to hubby " when will we ever need a cow or a pig". Now I know...

Generations have gone before us without all this "stuff" AND survived or we wouldn't be here.

Sadly for the current generations most of the knowledge of the old ways has been replaced by video games & social media. Most of that knowledge can still be found but by the time people realize they need it it will be to little to late.

Well most places have gone to J.I.T. inventory...and anyone with a brain could figure out that this method might save on warehouse facilities but it is heavily dependent upon low skill logistical labor.

From Truck drivers to forklift drivers...all are relatively low skilled labor. And when that labor pool has dried up because nobody is willing to pay them much they stay home. These are secondary jobs for most couples.

The few who remain (like truck drivers) only make money from driving...time at the docks spent loading and unloading doesn't pay them anything...and when a truck sits there for hours (because of no forklift drivers) they are going broke because they aren't driving.
So they begin to stay home too.

And the whole system of J.I.T. breaks down. A single point of failure. The most important part (people) have been treated as disposable for so long that the people began treating the employers and jobs as disposable.

Managing a workforce is a real skill. And it's been done so poorly for so long that upper management has no idea what it looks like anymore. It's not about having ice cream cones every so often or something expensive and dumb like that. It's about treating others with respect... putting forth real effort to care about those who work for you. A timely bottle of water and recognizing hard work means more than a $100 gift certificate to a fancy restaurant every day of the week.

There's a lot of problems with a lot of attitudes in the world lately. And all the money in the world isn't going to fix the problems. We can point fingers all day long but it's easier to look in the mirror and fix that person's attitude...that's usually the toughest one to deal with anyway.
