I've thought about leaving Facebook for years. In fact, I left once, but came back to it after a couple of months. But their censorship of conservative Christians really bothered me. Often they would attach notices to my posts, saying their "fact checkers" decided I was posting false information. Or they would simply block my posts altogether. This made me crazy!

But I hung in there for 2 reasons:
#1. I get my photos of my family through their FB postings.
#2. I've belonged to this one particular group of women for many years. They are all over the world and I counted so many of them as friends.

A few months back, I thought I'd found the perfect compromise. I deleted all my Friends except for my family. I'd still get their pictures. I got rid of all my Likes. And I left all the groups except for that one group I loved.

This worked fairly well. But then ...

Over time, my lovely group of women became infiltrated more and more with self professed Lesbians, Satanists, Pagans, Goddesses, etc, etc.

Ugh.

I tried to ignore them. It felt so wrong.

The last straw came with a Lesbian posting a picture of herself ... Clearly drunk, with her lesbian "husband", and her barely covered body hanging out in our faces. Disgusting.

I do not believe that our Lord wants us to spend so much time with unrepentant sinners.

Although it grieved me to leave my friends ... And miss those precious pictures of my grandchildren ... I deleted my Facebook account forever.

I've been a member here at CC since February. I've lurked some, but not really spent too much time here. I decided that although I feel a bit shy coming in as an unknown, I'm going to jump in and play. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all.

I really believe Facebook is a wicked place. I am done with them.

I never have had Facebook. Not because I disagree with anything (I don't know enough about the culture to disagree with it) but because I never have needed anything it provides. *shrug

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you enjoy it here. Miscellaneous and Singles Forums are the default chill places to hang out. (Don't let "Singles" throw you. We have married people there and we value their input in discussions.)

Bible Discussion Forum is where people yell at each other and say each other is not a REAL Christian... just so you know.:cautious:

Have fun, and I hope you chip in a lot on threads. That's how we get to know each other here. ;)

Welcome to CC. It has been nice seeing you around here.
There are, in my opinion, a lot of fun threads to "play" in here............
such as

and

https://christianchat.com/christian-singles-forum/random-game.185223/page-1200#post-4691876

are only a few.

Enjoy your time here.

Yeah, I noticed that! I've looked in because I do love discussing the Bible. But that's a scary place! :unsure:o_O

I'm enjoying the Singles forum. Seem like nice people. I just started wandering around this one. I'm determined to settle in and not let my natural shyness be the boss of me.

Natural shyness? That's great! A forum is the best place for shy people. We're all just words on a screen. What could words on a screen do to you... talk to you in ALL CAPS?

The Bible Discussion Forum is the most argumentative place we have, and all they can do is insult you. What are words on a screen? Nothing.

I deactivated Facebook around January for several reasons but I have logged in about six or seven times, definitely less than ten times, since then. A big improvement from checking it constantly throughout the day. It is kind of nice to know how some of my contacts are doing once in awhile. Plus, I have a few close friends on there and that is the only place I can go to see their pictures. Obviously a friend cannot personally update you always on what's going on, so you miss some nice details about their life such as they went to an apple farm. One day I am going to sit down and go through my list. I will delete it at some point.

I love forums. I can take my time. Chat rooms are much harder to keep up with!

I didn't like the garbage on fb either or the way people would comment and be rude and they didn't even know the person. I deleted fb about 10 years ago. I do IG instead and keep it on private. Only my family and friends I choose. Its worked out great. Good luck on here meeting people!

welcome to cc!

yes well I have logged off FB this month and dont intend going back.
Even while under pressure to join various groups by friends, I just give my reasons no, also I dont like the ads you have to wade through and you are not really in control of whatver you post there, companies can mine it for data, plus ppl can hack in an steal pics etc.

I think you have to put up with a lot of garbage to get the good stuff and my threshold for tolerating garbage is low. Unless you are using it for a specific purpose, it is a bit mindless!

Even if you have your own group and make it closed I would be wary of putting my personal business or prayers on there, because with groups people you dont know from a bar of soap can join and get all details

I think forums with avatars are better in a sense as we are all just people (christians) just wanting to have discussions with each other and not just talk about ourselves or brag the way FB seems set up for gossip.

plus, chat rooms, if you're not there you "miss" something.
Forums (like this) you can come and go, and reply at your own pace :) (even if it's a week later  )

So tempted to come back to this a week later and agree, but... nah, the joke isn't worth the effort of remembering it for a week. :p

If it was a really good joke I could set my phone to remind me in a week. For a joke that weak it's not even worth the effort.

Now THAT explains a lot around here
seriously, I doubt I'll ever cause you to have to set your phone for a reminder, but in the event it happens I'd be surprised.

I really didn't like fb but for the fact all of the family is on there & that was the only way to keep up with them. But I was hacked almost all the time. Had to spend a lot of money over the years to get the computer back the way it was supposed to be. The straw that broke the camels back was when I went to Verizon store to update my phone & get a new phone. I was texting one of my brothers when they needed my phone to transfer all the information. Don't have to leave fb they said. Really????? When I walked out of there, there was a Bruce something, I can't remember right now, on my home page. I had no contacts, no photos & I tried for 2 days to get another fb page, even got a new email addy. All the time it said "Welcome back Bruce." I went to Verizon where all this started a week earlier, by then, & this guy said there was no way possible I could have gotten hacked at Verizon. They have very good security, he said. After what seemed like an hour trying to talk to this person, he saw he was losing the argument & he told me he had been to computer school so he knew I could not have gotten hacked. I asked him if he could get this person's name & info off my page & my phone, he said no & I said & you went to computer school !!! I turned around & left. I finally had to get my number changed to get my phone back. I am a peaceful person but don't back me against the wall. :) I'm sorry about your experience with fb, it is becoming more of a problem all the time.
