When Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem to participate in the census Mary came to the end of her term to give Birth ---apparently there was no room for them in the lodging place and they settled for having their Son born in the stable where the animals were kept -----After Mary gave birth ----Jesus was laid in a manger ----which was a feeding trough that the animals ate from -----

Question ------Was This God's will that there be no room at the Inn or was it just a bad situation that presented itself to the couple ?----

Any Thoughts on this ----

This is the Scripture
Luke 2
J.B. Phillips New Testament

The census brings Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem
2 1-7 At that time a proclamation was made by Caesar Augustus that all the inhabited world should be registered. This was the first census, undertaken while Cyrenius was governor of Syria and everybody went to the town of his birth to be registered. Joseph went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to David’s town, Bethlehem, in Judea, because he was a direct descendant of David, to be registered with his future wife, Mary, now in the later stages of her pregnancy. So it happened that it was while they were there in Bethlehem that she came to the end of her time. She gave birth to her first child, a son. And as there was no place for them inside the inn, she wrapped him up and laid him in a manger.

This is a picture of what a house in Israel might have looked like in Jesus time ----

Everything falls into God's sovereign will to allow or not allow.

It is symbolic to be born amongst the animals. To be born amongst many including the Lamb. He was of no earthly status as evident of His birth in the manger. But due to the star, prophecy, and the angels it was evident of His spiritual status.

heaven was made by and for him he sits on the clouds high above in his glory

the beauty of Christ to me is that he set aside his majesty and became a humble man . He deserved all our Praise but we condemned him and punished him and nailed him to a cross

he didn’t have to do it he is himself glory and majesty he could have just created another people but our God Loves us much he came from a throne in heaven me was born in a stable of animals

I think it speaks of how great his love is for us deserving to be born in a golden tower and worshipped he was born in a manger and overlooked by most.

“He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

our creator born in a manger in order to give us hope

I hope you know what a silly question that is =]

OF COURSE IT IS HIS PERFECT WILL
He did his to teach us something about Himself. He chose it to be so - and there is almost certainly a complement in the OT foreshadowing it, so that if we find it and put the two together they inform each other and teach us even more about Him.

What a fitting birth so by His poverty we might become rich, to empty Himself of heavenly status to a manger birth fitting for where the servants worked with the animals. A servants place of occupation would give life to the Servant King who would give His life as a ransom for many.

2 Corinthians 8:9 (ESV)
9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Philippians 2:7 (ESV)
7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

Mark 10:45 NIV
45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

The Birth of Jesus
…6 While they were there, the time came for her Child to be born. 7And she gave birth to her firstborn, a Son. She wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. 8And there were shepherds residing in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks by night.…

Inn here in this scripture is

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance

kataluma: a lodging place
Definition: a lodging place
Usage: an inn, lodging-place.
guest chamber, inn.
From kataluo; properly, a dissolution (breaking up of a journey), i.e. (by implication) a lodging-place -- guestchamber, inn.---------an inn, lodging-place: Luke 2:7

So here is my Spiritual take on why Jesus was Born in the lower part of the INN ------why He was wrapped in swaddling cloth and why He was laid in a manger ------which is the animal feeding trough --

Jesus was the Son of God ---the King of Kings ----and by Him being Born in the Lower part of the Inn He laid His Kingship down and Humbled Himself to the lowliest State to be able to walk in a fallen World and walk with His fallen Creation so as to understand and experience what we experience in this world so He could be a mediator between God and man while having full understanding of both in His human form -------

It makes perfect Spiritual Sense that Jesus was Born where the Animals were kept---- as Jesus is the Lamb of God -----and the sheep and lambs were kept in the lower part of the house in those days in what they called a stable ------

Jesus was laid in a manger ----feeding trough which held the sustaining food for the animals ------Jesus is the Lamb of God -----and He is our Sustaining Bread of life ---So Again it makes perfect Spiritual sense for Jesus to be laid in an animal feeding trough ----

Now it says He was Swaddled in cloth ----this for me was the eye opener of all Folks -----

The shepherds actually wrapped there new born Lambs who were going to be used for sacrifice in swaddling Cloth --this was done to prevent any scrapes or bruising to the Lamb as it had to be without spot or blemish to brought before God -------So it makes perfect Spiritual Sense for Jesus to be wrapped in swaddling cloth as it would have been a sign to the shepherds who came to see Jesus at His Birth that He was their Messiah ---their Sacrificial Lamb -----

From Google

Did shepherds wrap lambs in swaddling clothes?

Sheep herding was a hereditary occupation, and generations of shepherds were trained to care for these special lambs. ... The newborn lambs would be wrapped tightly… swaddled… in specially designated temple cloths, and they would be laid in a manger to keep them contained while they were being examined for blemishes

I say -------So there is a lot of spiritual meaning in this piece of Scripture I believe

There is a passage in pre Christian literature that has King Solomon saying that he was wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger but I'm not sure now where or when I saw it. If anyone knows where it comes from I would be interested to know.

I was nursed in swaddling clothes, and that with cares.

the Hebrew for 'manger' is found 3 times in the OT:

Will the wild ox be willing to serve you?
Will he bed by your manger?
(Job 39:9)
Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean;
but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
(Proverbs 14:4)
An ox knows its owner, and a donkey its master’s manger;
Israel does not know, My people do not understand!
(Isaiah 1:3)

Definitely God's will.

Prophetic and symbolic to say the least. The vast majority of men will not find room in their prideful self-centered hearts for Jesus. We must also remember that today, Jesus requires more than one little room, for He is the King.

A follow-up question:

Could the innkeeper have made room if he had been so inclined?

I found this ---which is an interesting read --------you can read the whole thing here --I just posted this part ----

https://comeintotheword.com/the-reason-for-the-swaddling-cloths/

Now read Wisdom 7:1-6.

While Ezekiel just hints at what might be behind Luke’s mention of swaddling cloths, the passage in Wisdom is more to the point. Here Solomon – the first “Son of David” – speaks of his own birth:

“Mortal, like all men … in the womb of a mother I was molded into flesh … and my first sound was a cry, like that of all. I was nursed with care in swaddling cloths. For no king has had a different beginning of existence; there is for all mankind one entrance into life, and a common departure.”

The angels bring great news: “to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ (“Messiah”) the Lord. And this will be a sign for you…”

Swaddling cloths are a sign of the promised king, made clear through the words of Solomon — the royal son of David who sought wisdom above riches and whose swaddling clothes were a sign not merely of humility, but of his humanity. “No king has had a different beginning of existence,” Solomon wrote. Not the first son of David, and not this last

I say -----well there probably was really no room as there would have been a lot of people in the area at that time because of the census being done ------but seeing how Mary was with child you would think that someone would have given up their room and offered it to her ------but it seems no one did ------

I think because it was God's Will for Jesus to be born where He was just maybe God kept all hearts hardened to any offers of kindness to fulfil His Will --just like He did with Pharaoh in Egypt----

I say ----nothing will stand in the way of God's Will working out the way He wants -----

maybe the guests at the inn didn't even know. maybe they only talked to the innkeeper.
maybe only Joseph talked to him, and didn't try to play the 'pregnant wife card' but took what he could get

She definitely didn't look like a card. She was about to pop. I can't imagine him not even mentioning it. Pretty cold if He didn't. (But we don't know much about him, do we?)

Has anyone consider these things aside from the prophecies?

Jesus was the only one born who picked his parents.
Jesus picked the stable in which he would be born and the time of day it would happen.

Just a couple of observations share if you have more.
