My most satisfying study was when I used the study of a man who commented on the Torah (first 5 books of scripture) with three goals in mind. He had spent eight years in Jerusalem studying ancient history and scripture. His goal was to show how all scripture is a reflection of the same God with the same attributes, and to always keep in mind how the men who wrote what God breathed to them thought about the words they used. He often pointed out how the new testament fulfilled what was taught in the old testament.

This man promised to be very careful to report scripture without giving his personal interpretation to it, but he often told of different way different people interpreted a verse. It was so involved and deep it took me several years to complete it. Each page was more gripping, exciting, and thrilling than novels and I found it all true although I kept in mind it was from a man's words and it must be only what God said.

It was as if the world was explained, I often thought "Oh, THAT is how the Lord did it".

study topically and download Bible app you can search for topics and find that through the Bible there are very simple themes that remain consistent and slowly are revealed through the ages when God spoke

the Old Testament promised the New Testament would come, so you can actually see the promosed long before Christ came

You have three main segments of the Bible and one main subject of all three the law of Moses ( exodus , Leviticus Deuteronomy and numbers ) then you have the prophets which make up the rest of the Old Testament then the epistles of the apostles beginning with the book of acts through revelation

the main subject of all those speakers on scripture is what you find in “the gospel according to “ Matthew , mark , Luke and John.

the law and prophets of the ot d the epistles of the New Testament are all witnessing and proclaiming the truth of the gospel and name of Jesus Christ our Lord

Mainly don’t go into it believing it’s complex but above all when you open your studies and close them ask the Lord to teach you from his word and he will !!!

it’s not complex when you realize the Bible is about Jesus Christ and his eternal kingdom ot seems to
Me the difficulty in understanding is based on us not believing what he said and remaining with what we thought before we learned what he said

let what you learn become what you believe

First, do not try to prove what you believe or have been taught.
Let the Scripture teach you.
You will need a Greek and Hebrew dictionary so you can understand the original meanings of the words.
Remember what we learned in school.
Who is speaking, to whom are they speaking, what are they speaking about, why are they speaking, and the time, past, present, or future.
It is all about context.
Never, never come to a conclusion based on a single verse.
The most important part is prayer. Lots of prayer.

As a new believer the main foundation of your faith is to deepen the love and relationship between you and God. When I was saved I had no one to teach me no mentor or friend I could rely on so I went to God himself and asked him Lord what does it mean to be strong and what does it mean to be a Christian? He answered me with the first and best advice I ever got from him seek love first and everything else will fall into place.
So I would do a study on God's love and who we are to him gain a better understanding of his love for you and who you are to him

I suggest after you have read the entire bible, to do a time study of events starting in Genesis 5. From the info given you can determine when each was born, died, and had the son that carried the generational line

I say ----make sure you first get the foundation of what holds you to God ------

Faith is your Foundation and that is not taught well today at all-----

Faith is the glue that bonds you to God -------if you have no foundation under your house when the storms come your house will not stand and you will be left out in the storms -----

The storms of Life will bring you down without you first being Grounded and rooted in the God's Faith -
learn all you can about God's Faith ------our Human Faith is not the right Faith ------

https://faithisland.org/faith/7-reasons-faith-is-important/

When you hear the word “faith,” what do you think of? Whether you realize it or not, faith is an essential part of life, not just Christianity. For example, every time you sit down on a chair, you have faith that the chair will hold you. You are trusting that the chair won’t collapse under you.

That’s faith – being sure of what you’re hoping for – being certain of what you don’t see or experience yet. The Bible defines faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).

1. Without Faith, it’s Impossible to Please God
Why is faith necessary? Because without it, we cannot please God.

Hebrews 11:6 states, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Let’s face it – believing in a God we cannot see and believing that He is who He says He is takes faith! And it pleases God.

2. Jesus Notices Our Level of Faith
In the book of Matthew, we see two different people with two different faith levels.

Matthew 15:28: “Then Jesus answered and said to her, ‘O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.’ And her daughter was healed from that very hour.”

Matthew 14:31: “And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’”

The woman was a Gentile who had faith that Jesus was the only hope for her sick daughter. She wouldn’t take “no” for an answer from this Jewish Rabbi, so Jesus – moved by her faith – granted her request.

The man with little faith was Peter, Jesus’s own disciple! Jesus was walking on the water and invited Peter to come to Him; Peter had the faith to walk to Jesus on the water, but when his eyes focused on the wind and the waves, he became afraid and began to sink. We too need to keep our eyes on Jesus instead of our circumstances – this will keep our faith strong during difficulties.

3. Faith Moves God to Act
Why is faith important to God? Because faith – not need, doubt or fear – moves God. Mark 2:5 says, “When Jesus saw [his friends’] faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven you.’” The lame man got up, grabbed his mat, and went home! When Jesus saw the faith of the lame man’s friends, He moved on their behalf and healed their friend.

As Christians, we often petition God, asking Him to meet our needs, to heal our bodies or relationships, or to give us wisdom. But as James 1:5-7 says, unless we ask in faith without doubting, we won’t receive what we’re asking for.

4. Faith Strengthens Us During Trials
Because we live in a sinful, fallen world, we will face difficulties. But our faith is what helps us remain strong during hard times. We have an enemy, and it’s our faith that acts as a shield to protect us from his schemes and plots: “above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one” (Ephesians 6:16).

We should not be surprised when our faith is tested; James 2:3 says that “the testing of your faith produces patience.” As we stand firm in faith through trials, God gets glory: “that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:7).

5. Faith Fuels What We Do
We demonstrate our faith in God by what we do and how we live. James 2:26 states, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

Picture this: Faith and Works are each an oar in your row boat of life. They work together to move you forward. Genuine faith is validated by actions that follow; likewise, actions done without faith are useless. We must always act in faith!

James explains it like this: “Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, ‘You have faith, and I have works.’ Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works” (James 2:17-18).

6. Our Faith Can Encourage Others
Unshakeable faith is noticeable, and it can encourage others to be firm in their faith too. Colossians 1:3-4 says, “We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints.” It’s easier to stay committed to faith in God when you see others doing the same. Choose to stand strong in your faith and inspire others to do the same!

Timothy was a young pastor who was being mentored by the Apostle Paul. Paul states in 2 Timothy 1:5 “when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.” When our faith is strong and true, it can be passed on to others including our family and friends making a difference in their lives as well.

7. Faith is the Foundation of Salvation
When Jesus walked the earth, the Jewish people were sure they had to keep all the rules of the law in order to be acceptable to God. But when Jesus came, He redefined righteousness: “… a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law …” (Galatians 2:16).

We are made right with God through faith in Jesus, God’s Son; we are not made right before God by what we do or don’t do. This was a radical shift for the Israelites. They were so used to earning their salvation. But as Ephesians 2:8-9 declares, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

Finally, we must guard our faith. 1 Timothy 6:11-13 reminds us “But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called ….”

We must be prepared to fight to maintain our faith during the storms of life which will try to derail us. In fact, as we preserve our faith in God, it will sustain us through the toughest trials, for the glory of God

Do any of you have any tips that might help?
You cannot go wrong investing in Nave's Topical Bible (King James Version). Nave has brought together all Scriptures pertaining to a specific topic under one heading or sub-heading. And he has covered the entire Bible. This will enable you to see all the verses and passages about any particular subject. You can purchase it from Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Naves-Topica...&qid=1640980737&sprefix=nave's,aps,110&sr=8-1

"Nave's Topical Bible, " the best known of all topical bibles, has been a valuable Bible-study reference and a best-seller for more than 75 years. It is a comprehensive digest of over 20,000 topics and subtopics with more than 100,000 associated Scripture references. The most significant references for each topic actually include the full text of the verse cited saving the need to separately look up each verse.

Because "Nave's "groups verses by "idea" (or "topic"), it offers a better overview of relevant Scriptures than a concordance, which only lists or indexes verses according to specific words. This edition also includes the helpful Scripture index (left out of some other editions), which makes it possible for the reader studying a particular biblical text to locate every topic and grouping of Scripture in "Nave's "whenever a particular verse is included. That way, it is possible for the reader to study either all the verses related to a particular topic "or" all the topics related to a particular verse it works both ways.

For the pastor or teacher interested in saving hours of time but not willing to give their second best, and for anyone wanting to be challenged by what God has to say about a given subject, "Nave's Topical Bible" is the passport that will allow immediate and successful entry to the many points of interest."

After you get familiar with the Foundation of Faith ------Then I would study how God's kingdom Works this will help you gain insight into some understanding of the Scriptures -------

God's Kingdom works on the Farming System -----you sow seeds and you reap what you sow -----The Parable of the Sower describes how the Kingdom works and how when we are not Grounded and Rooted in faith our harvest can be affected ------Jesus says if you don't understand this Parable then how can you understand any parable ---this is the most important Parable to get so you can have understanding of the others -----

Mark 4 NIV
The Parable of the Sower
13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable?

This sounds very interesting, do you remember the name of the book or the man?
He is Tom Bradford and his commentary on scripture is free on the net at torahclass.com. It takes reams of paper to print them, you can buy them.

After you learn what Christ has done for you and listen to what Christ wants from you so you may receive this gift from Him, It is good to search for all the information you can find about the God who created you. The first five books of scripture gives you that, but it is very difficult for us to grasp because the men who wrote the God inspired words lived such a different life than we live today. So the words they used were often understood in a different way than we understand those same words today. For example--salt. To them it was kept in a pouch they carried on their belt and any contract was legal when the salt from the two parties were mixed. You couldn't separate the salt, or take back the contract. Tom explains all scripture using the new testament, ancient history, and a vast knowledge of all scripture to compare verses so it all becomes clear.

Someone once said "People read the bible one of two ways...either to confirm what they believe, or to conform what they believe"

If you read to confirm, the bible will only become a canvas upon which you project Self.
If you read (and pray) to conform what you believe, then God will start showing you areas where your current beliefs need to be adjusted or replaced...even if you got those ideas straight from a church.

Love in Jesus (and fruitful seeking of God),

The New Testament explains a lot of the Old Testament concerning the Future Messiah, Christ. For anyone just beginning to read the Bible, I would suggest reading the New Testament first, and when you get into the Old Testament, many answers are already answered for why the Law was in place, why the Temple of God was created first in tent form and later with stone, what the 10 commandments meant on a deeper level, what the Tree of Life in the Garden, Noah's Ark, the Ark of the Covenant, the Mercy Seat, the Burning Bush scene, and so many more examples of Christ before He was known as Jesus, the 4th man in the furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Cloud by Day and Fire by Night, the Angel of the Lord, Elohim, I AM, YHWH, Yahweh and so forth.

Thank you so much for this, there is a lot there and I feel you are right. You said faith is not taught well and I agree, when people talk about it all they say is you have it or you don't. I think I do but I still worry sometimes. I will use the website you referred and other tools like the bible of course but do you have any ideas about where to start to dive in to learn and to see where my faith really is? I think about this a lot but I seem to get in the way of myself too.
how do I test my own faith and build it more no matter where it is?
