Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness
4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]”

7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]”

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]”

11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

it is written , it is written , it is written …..

Jesus didn’t argue with him he didn’t try to outsmart him he just stuck to Gods word held tightly to his shield

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭

and then struck him down three times with his sword

“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

even Adam and Eve had the same confrontation that is satans only avenue to get us away from Gods word d believe he said something different. Jesus stayed with Gods word and Satan was frustrated in his attempt to thwart him

that’s just something I perceive there in that we all have to face the same struggle and we can also choose to stick to Gods word Satan has no defense or plan that can break our shield and he cannot take the wounds from our sword

Lord Jesus is called "the Last Adam" (1 Corinthians 15:45). He is the last Adam because He pleased God so perfectly that there is no need for another. Adam was tempted in a magnificent garden, and succumbed. Adam knew what he was doing. He chose Satan's way over God's command. Lord Jesus was tempted in the wilderness. He had no reminders of God's goodness and power around him.

Lord Jesus was tested before He launched out into ministry. A lot of enthusiastic Christians are fine when all is well, but stumble when life gets difficult. We need to be stable and strong in Christ. And not just when all is going to plan, but also when everything is falling apart. If our stability depends on circumstances, we will be like spiritual corks on the ocean, taken wherever wind, wave and current moves us. Lord Jesus was immovable in temptation.

Satan used the same technique as he did with Adam and Eve. Satan cast doubt on God's word. "Has God said......?" We need to stand on the solid rock of God's promises and we need to reject Satan's insinuations and deceptions. Satan even used God's word to tempt Jesus. It is vital not to cherry pick Bible verses that suit us. We need to know the whole counsel of God.

We do not have to win the victory. Lord Jesus has already won it for us. We do need to know how to deal with Satan's temptations and to resist him.

Satan attempts to mislead and misdirect. He will tempt people in their areas of weakness, then accuse them before God. He will observe people giving into the flesh then tell them it's an evil spirit. As one preacher used to say, "How many of you know that you can't cast out the works of the flesh?"

Satan also tries to hang false guilt on us. We sometimes just feel like something is wrong. Perhaps it will be a reaction from someone else that gets us to worry and fret about nothing.

If we are diligent, we will learn Satan's tricks and how to overcome them. Satan is already defeated. We must enforce the victory God gives in us in Christ. It's not automatic.

What can we learn from this discussion?
We can learn how demons work to lie to us. They start by telling us of a truth of the Lord then twist it. God supplies our every need and supports us when we are in danger, but the demons twisted this. We can learn to recognize this tactic of demons as they work in our world today.

An example is demons use the truth that we are not to judge others but accept them to tell us to accept sin in our church and lifes. They twist that God tells us to how to be great in the kingdom of heaven to how to be great in the kingdom of the world.

Another thing, we shouldn't do what Satan asks. Three times the devil tells Jesus what to do, but the devil is not in charge. The devil just can't stand not to be worshipped, so he splits.

Just like the secular world keeps twisting moralities and talking points.

Amen! To know and accept the truth of scripture v accepting a false doctrine that quotes a verse or two and uses it against us

Satan was quoting also but he was way out of context and using a scripture to justify his temptations

Excellent point!

The devil also used food to tempt both Eve and Jesus. The devil tried using power and the attractiveness of wealth, for payment for worship.

amen and sometimes the guilt and sorrow we feel is from God because we have done. Wrong that is godly sorrow and should be embraced because it leads us to repentance

“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭7:10‬ ‭

of Satan is trying to convince us our past sins are t forgiven as baptized Christians it’s a lie but if we as a Christian have done some wrong that should bring us sorrow that we have done wrong and will lead us to confess and repent and he of course is faithful to forgive us oir trespasses so long as we forgive others in him

there is also sorrow because we don’t have everything we want or we want worldly things and don’t have them that kind of sorrow is not of God

amen he is Wiley and crafty but we know the truth about eternal Life and because we believe the good news of Gods kingdom we understand there is nothing he can offer us even the world itself that compares to what God has prepared for Christs disciples

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:9-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:23-24‬ ‭

we are of the truth when we believe the gospel

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:37‬ ‭KJV‬‬

if we stick to Christ and his word of promise and truth lies become lies because we know the truth and are convinced of it

It is the same three lies that Satan told from the beginning rephrased. Through one man, Adam, came death. Through one man, Jesus, came life.

This is the first demon possession; when the serpent twisted his breath of life and broke it tormentedly into three lies, he breathed these three spirits, his own tortured spirit that he broke into three pieces, with the sword of his tongue he forged the three lies and cast his breath into woman, these three lies are the source of the demons. Woman became possessed at the final casting of the third lie indicated by how she sees the fruit in the wrong way, thinking it was a fruit to make her wise, a fruit to be desired, but it brought death to the world and them both and their children. Oh, Adam, you loved her and did not know she was possessed, and you ate also!

The Lord God cried out "oh man where are you?" and the man came forth and said he hid himself because he was ashamed. The Lord God he knew right then they had eaten, oh laments and sorrow, for his children were beguiled and must suffer! Yet the man still came before the Father and confessed that the woman gave the fruit to him, and he did eat. The woman also humbled herself and came forth and confessed that the serpent beguiled her, and she did eat. The Lord God cursed the serpent to crawl and eat the dust and gave him the name Enemy and foretold that the Son of Man the seed of Woman would come by the Word of God and kill the serpent one day. The Lord God instructed woman that she desire one man and obey him and cursed her to bring forth children in sorrow and pain. The Lord God instructed the man to toil all the days of his life by the sweat of his brow and to strive against the Earth and cursed him that from the dust he was taken and to the dust he shall return. Then the Lord God threw them all out of the Garden.

Through one man, the Word of God made flesh, Jesus, came life. This Jesus he is the same Son of Man and Son of God who was prophesied to slay the old serpent fulfilling the curses and the prophecies. In the wilderness the Lord was approached by the serpent. The serpent opened his mouth and cast at him the same three lies. It is the same as in the Garden, but this story ends differently than it ended in the Garden. Lord Jesus by the Sword of his mouth defeated the breath of the dragon, his three lies, and cut them down, yes, the Lord Jesus overcame the three lies. This is the Lord Jesus, and he was born, and he ministered, and he breathed on the holy apostles that they may receive the Holy Spirit, and he was crucified, and he was resurrected, and he ascended to the Right Hand of Power to prepare his kingdom, and he will come again and slay Satan and the entire army of the wicked by the sharp Sword which proceeds from his mouth. Praise the Father the God of Gods, praise the Lord Jesus the King of Kings!
