Newman University, Birmingham, tells students studying the holy book that the module ‘includes themes of sexual violence and abuse – in images and biblical texts’.
Certain passages are flagged up as especially problematic, including a chapter of 2 Samuel in the Old Testament, about David, the King of Israel who had previously slain Goliath.
The passage, marked ‘SV’ to denote sexual violence, tells of David’s adulterous affair with Bathsheba and the role he played in the death of her husband Uriah the Hittite.

Not a big deal. The Old Testament is full of history, much of it not pleasant. It's not a sanitised, G rated family story. What is sad is that the nannies don't believe that most people are mature enough to deal with such truth. What is even sadder, is that they are probably right.

Typical Communist idiocy. They can't tell the difference between sex and violence (which is pretty much in any new movie or new episode of a TV show), and sexual violence. Sex and violence would be accurate, although probably an overstatement, given a comparison to the rest of society. Sexual violence would be if David had raped Bathsheba.

Sad to see the UK going to Hell like this.
I'm sure the Koran will be next. Uh huh, sure. Yep. Any day now, not!

Actually the Koran will be elevated in the UK at the expense of the Bible. Muslims get preferential treatment there, and the most vicious Muslim criminals simply get a slap on the wrist. In the meantime a Christian pastor who preaches the truth gets jailed.

Likely and sadly possible, yes. Don't you know Churchill and Thatcher are spinning in their graves due to what's happening in GB now.

Years ago the Archbishop of Canterbury made news when he said Sharia law was inevitable for Britain.
He later recanted as I recall. Still, I think he went out on a limb in an effort to forewarn people of what was going to come. What's to risk once the cat is out of the bag.

Which is ironic, because Muslims - at least some sects - are infamous for sexual violence. Never having read the Koran, I can't say it teaches it, but I would not be surprised if it were in there. As compared to the bible, which teaches against all forms of exploitation - even slaves were given protections.

On a positive note, the rating is sure to attract a whole new range of readers. Not for the right reasons, of course. But God's word is powerful, no matter the motivation for reading it.

We as Christians know there are histories of people claiming to follow Christ that exercised horrific acts against women, children, and communities and all in the name of it being God's will.
Islam is no exception I'm sure. We read of women being raped by their Muslim husbands. It's said to be in accordance with the Koran scriptures. But it isn't.
Bad people can act even worse if they can twist a holy books verses to make it sound like they are what they are because it is God's teaching.

This is very astute.
The University's response IS ridiculous... but it will probably backfire.
