This may sound strange to those who have not yet received the Holy Ghost.

Being BAPTIZED with the Holy Ghost/Spirit means a person has received the Holy Ghost/Spirit permanently.
Being FILLED with the Holy Ghost/Spirit means it has pushed everything else out until there is no room left for anything else (like SIN).

A common mistake among those who have been BAPTIZED with the Holy Ghost is to claim they are FILLED with the Holy Ghost.
Yet a person who is FILLED with the Holy Ghost will not be sinning... because there is no room in them for sin. (People claim this more often than it is true.)

Being BAPTIZED with the Holy Ghost is a singular event that you keep forever.
Being FILLED with the Holy Ghost is currently only temporary because we can (and soon do) allow other things (like the desire for old habits) to enter in.

Ephesians 5:18 hints at the relationship between what we fill ourselves with, and what results will be. We need to realize that whatever we fill ourselves with is going to yield a corresponding change in our actions/behavior.

So... how can we be FILLED with the Holy Ghost/Spirit?

First, if you haven't been BAPTIZED with the Holy Ghost/Spirit, you need to seek Jesus until that happens. Acts 2:39 promises it to ALL that the Lord calls....just like he promised it to the apostles (see Acts 1). But also just like the apostles, you may need to tarry (wait, pray, seek, ask) until you receive... just like others did.

Then, once you have been BAPTIZED with the Holy Ghost/Spirit you need to USE IT. We need to pray in the Spirit once we have received it. Jude 21 commands us to build ourselves up in faith and keep ourselves in the love of God by praying in the Holy Ghost.

Those who have been BAPTIZED with the Holy Ghost/Spirit will likely understand what that means.
Those who have not been BAPTIZED with the Holy Ghost/Spirit probably don't know what praying in the Holy Ghost really is. (I also make allowance that some simply have not been taught to use what they have been given.)


Lastly, there is another meaning of filled/full that also needs to be recognized. That is the idea of being full/filled to capacity. This acknowledges that every vessel has a capacity limit based on its "size". When God gave Solomon the vast amount of wisdom, it is also stated that God gave him "largeness of heart" so he could retain it.

When a person has not eaten (or has eaten too little) for a significant amount of time, their stomach shrinks, and their capacity is diminished. The same seems to be true in the spirit. As we eat of his flesh and drink of his blood more and more, our capacity increases.

If you have been BAPTIZED with the Holy Ghost/Spirit, USE IT and get and stay FILLED with the Holy Ghost/Spirit (as often and as long as you can). BTW, reading and doing the word = eating his flesh. Prayer in the Spirit = drinking his blood (partaking of his life).

John 20:22 says that apostles received the Holy Spirit after the resurrection of Christ, prior to His ascension, prior to Pentecost:

John 20:22
22And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

Acts 1:4-5 says that the apostles were not baptized with the Holy Spirit until later.

Acts 1:4-5
4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

So baptism of the Holy Spirit is not necessarily the receiving of the Holy Spirit, though it possibly can occur at that time too, but it doesn't need to. The primary purpose of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is to have a spiritual gift imparted upon the believer:

Acts 1:8
8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you...

Jesus had just spent forty days with his disciples after his resurrection.
Why?


His mission was completed on the cross when he said " IT IS FINISHED". His disciples however were NOT COMPLETE and ready to face THEIR MISSION. John 20:22

We have GOD who is the father,who is the son (Jesus) who is the Holy Ghost

Rms.15:13 Now the GOD of hope fill you with all joy and peace in BELIEVING, ( Jesus) that ye may abound in hope,through the POWER of the Holy Ghost.

We cannot take the father,nor the son,nor the Holy Ghost as seperate at our salvation. Just as all were at the creation,so are all at our salvation.
We accept the full Godhead into our hearts which teaches us how to have a relationship with him.

Many people are confused in this baptized and filled.

They are different!

As stated we have the presence of God ( Father,Jesus,and Holy Ghost ) at our new birth.
The true full use in the life of a believer is to be FILLED with the Holy Ghost,as in Acts after Jesus breathed on them and tongued of fire were above each and each SPOKE with new tongues.
THERE IS ...ONLY..ONE FILLING OF THE JOLY GHOST!

This is probably a can of worms bc of varied teachings and beliefs but if at least once you do not speak with tongues you are not filled with the Holy Ghost! Baptized yes bc God is all in one but the GIFT of the Holy Ghost is a seperate event just as the gift of salvation is an event. He gives us POWER and BOLDNESS to spread the gospel of Jesus.

Not all the time. God gave Adam a sin-free situation. Adam walked in it until he chose to sin. (not very long)

When someone actually receives remission of sins their sins are gone... which makes us just like Adam.. BUT... just like Adam, without the spirit of God within us, we don't have the POWER to resist sin.

That's where the Holy Ghost comes in. "Ye shall receive POWER after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you".
Power over sin (for one thing). But whether we use that power or not is often up to us.

Fortunately, that's where prayer in the spirit comes in. Because as we pray in the spirit, the spirit itself helpeth our infirmities (which means it moves them out of the way, overcomes them). That's a BIG deal, and CANNOT be done by willpower alone...CANNOT. Not by might, nor by power, but by his SPIRIT says the Lord.

I'll be frank in saying this. Some pray in the spirit very little, showing comparatively little power in this world... and a corresponding "sameness" as before. Same thinking, same behaviors, same doctrines as before. And because of letting the old habits back in there... same sins.

But if someone prays MUCH in the spirit, getting full of the spirit, walking in the spirit (not just dabbling every once in a while), then the promise of God is that they won't fulfill the lusts of the flesh. That's a promise of the word of God. God cannot lie. So either God is lying, or the people are being lazy. Between the two, you know it's the laziness of the people, not the failing of the word of God.

The reason (at least one OF the reasons) people don't stay FULL of the Holy Ghost is that it takes effort. Just like staying in good, fit physical shape. It's not that being in good physical condition is unavailable.... it's just that it COSTS something that most are unwilling to pay. So it is with God. People like to walk in the flesh, enjoying the things of this world. And they do it at the cost of the spiritual.

And NO, I'm not saying I walk a sin-free life. But I know the effort in the spirit that I put in, and I see the results.

I liked watching my coworker (who never sits still for more than a minute or two) come and listen to the word of God for a half an hour at my mouth. And I love watching (and being part of) another coworker getting baptized in Jesus' name for remission of sins and receiving the Holy Ghost and start praying in the Spirit. I LOVE those things. And this isn't even kidding...That was just the 24 hours of Wednesday 9pm to last night 9pm.

I've mostly been asleep since then because I had to give up my Wednesday night's sleep to go in for a 12-hr shift because a third coworker was sick. But as you can guess, that was so I could testify, etc.

Prayer in the spirit pays off.

Each of the 4 gospels, at the beginning of the ministry of John (because John's ministry with baptism started BEFORE Jesus earthly ministry days of gathering disciples, etc, began... which BTW also contained the same water baptism John was sent with) there was a statement made by John. In EACH (all 4) this statement was made. "I (John) baptize you with water. He (Jesus) shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost"(in one wording or another). It was always stated as an event yet to come regarding the Holy Ghost.

In each of the 4 gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) at the end of Jesus' earthly ministry and before he departed to the Father, Jesus sends the apostles to baptize and to receive the Holy Ghost (in one wording or another).

This end-of-Jesus-earthly-ministry commandment was repeated again in Acts 1:4-5 plus verse 8, (as you pointed out) in yet another wording that also contains John's declaration...tying them both together. And this 5th statement STILL has the statement about the Holy Ghost as an event yet to come.

The fulfilling of ALL of these begins in Acts chapter 2, when the outpouring of the Holy Ghost and the preaching and baptising in Jesus name (which is the only change made to John's baptism) for remission of sins begins at Jerusalem per Luke 24:46-49.

The "promise of the Father" is the outpouring of the Holy Ghost / the Comforter. They had to WAIT for it, as well as RECEIVE it. They didnt get to skip the waiting process in the John 20:22-23 wording of that commandment of Jesus to receive the Holy Ghost and baptize in his name for remission of sins.

They were still waiting for THAT promise in Acts chapter 1 (per Jesus). And THAT promise began to be fulfilled at the beginning of Acts chapter 2, (only AFTER he departed to the Father so he could send the Comforter) and was preached as a SINGULAR "the promise" at the end of Acts 2 (verses 38-39).

If you are stating that a person cannot claim to be New testament "Saved" before they receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, I might agree.

If you don't "have all that you need", you actually put yourself at great risk by "claiming to be saved".

This isn't a slam, so please don't take it as one, but if it wasn't for the first sentence of this quote, I would have thought you to believe "speaking in tongues" as unnecessary. (perhaps I've just not read your posts thoroughly enough)

This may be a bold way to ask it because of the 'can of worms' you mentioned, but do you believe that speaking in tongues is NECESSARY? (and you may direct message me if preferred).

I guess I'll put this in a functional scenario as well, to show the risk.

Wolves in pastors' clothing will gladly proclaim "You're SAVED in the name of Jesus!" when you've done what THEY told you is necessary, which is NOT the same as "when you have all that you NEED". What do you think happens to those sheep on Judgement day (who have been assured they are "SAVED" but don't "have all that they NEED")?

Many are called, but few chosen.

Speaking in tongues is the INITIAL EVIDENCE of being FILLED by the Holy Spirit.
Mk.16:17 And these SIGNS ........SHALL...FOLLOW...THEM.....THAT BELIEVE; In MY name shall they cast OUT DEVILS; THEY....SHALL....SPEAK...WITH...NEW....TONGUES.

Then Paul goes on to expound the gifts and functions in the church
1Cor.14:18 I thank my God that I speak with TONGUES more than ye all. V.39
Wherefore,brethren, COVET to prophesying,and and forbid not to speak in tongues.
1 Cor 12:30 Have ye ALL the gifts of healing? Do you all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?


I Corinthians is an open exposition on what saith the word. Do we need to add to or diminish the meaning ......NO

Individuals are gifted by how they YEILD to the Father,The Son and the Holy Spirit!

INITIAL EVIDENCE @ least speaking in tongues once!

We are instructed NOT to quench,grieve or resist the Holy Ghost but rather to allow him to comfort,light the word,teach,bring to remembrance ECT.

People focus toooo much on tongues instead of what the POWER of the Holy Spirit brings into our lives!

I am trying to allow the word as correction against erroneous teachings. Allowing God to lead IF THEY YEILD, people on wrong personal or man taught interpretations.........trying and pushing HARD AGAINST THE FLESH.

Actually this is wrong

The anointing of the spirit would be the spirit coming into a believer and being sealed

The baptism of the HS is the act of the HS baptizing us into christ, his death, his burial, his body and his church

The filling of the spirit is when we are focused on the things of the spirit and the spirit is actually leading us in the ways of truth. the opposite of this would be the chastening of the spirit. When the spirit is trying to correct out path or behavior.

If you are stating that a person cannot claim to be New testament "Saved" before they receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, I might agree.

The question is what you understand under: receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit in Detail.
I suppose in the christianity are different understandings under : receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

My comment didn't require a clarification (yet) of what the person believes "baptism of/with the Holy Ghost" really is. They either believe it is a necessity of salvation, or they believe it is not.

Clarification of what it is could be made later.
