How do we do in order to assuage the hearts?

• Pro 21:14 -> “A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.”.

The custom of trying to mollify the hearts with gifts was used some times in the Holy Scripture, chiefly by Jacob:

At the first time, before meeting Esau:

• Gen 32:19-21 -> “And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him. And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me. So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.”.

At the second time, when he got in touch with Esau:

• Gen 33:8-10 -> “And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord. And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself. And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.”.

At the third time, trying to buy the favor of the governor of Egypt:

• Gen 43:11 -> “And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:”.

Other person who made use of gifts to placate the wrath of someone was Abigail, when David got mad in virtue of Nabal deny him food:

• 1Sa 25:27 -> “And now this blessing which thine handmaid hath brought unto my lord, let it even be given unto the young men that follow my lord.”.

Well, in the case of Jacob, considering that, for two times, he used of slyness in order to get advantage, this deportment means that he learnt that it is more important to be in peace, if possible, with every human being (Rom 12:18) than to be full of good and quarrels at the same time:

• Pro 17:1 -> “Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.”.

The unfaithful administrator also perceived this:

• Luk 16:8-9 -> “And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.”.

Nonetheless, it there is one case wherein not even all the gifts all the world will be able to appease the heart:

• Pro 6:32-35 -> “But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.”.

So, have a good day trying to live like Job, which was righteous, feared the Creator and always eschewed evil (Job 1:1). If you are to impart presents for someone, may this be under total direction of Jesus so that they can approach of the Creator.
