Matt 27:50-53 . . And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he
gave up his spirit.

. . . At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to
bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the
bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out
of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and
appeared to many people.

When those people went into town, they likely went directly home to their
families and/or their kin; which would've been folks who attended their
funerals so there would be no mistaking they were back from the dead.

It would've helped the credibility of Jesus' resurrection quite a bit had he
gone into Jerusalem after his resurrection and shown himself alive to Pontius
Pilate and the Jews' religious authorities instead of keeping his recovery
private.

Haven't you ever been curious why Jesus didn't stage a public appearance
after his crucified dead body was successfully restored to life? Why only his
followers? Why not to all the Jews?

That is a hell of a question.:)
Luke 16:30‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone is sent to them from the dead, they will repent.’31Then Abraham said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’

Why would HE want to???

HE is not subject to criminals but only to the FATHER.

One day the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. And the rich man also died and was buried. 23In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side.
24So he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. For I am in agony in this fire.’
25But Abraham answered, ‘Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things. But now he is comforted here, while you are in agony. 26And besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that even those who wish cannot cross from here to you, nor can anyone cross from there to us.’
27‘Then I beg you, father,’ he said, ‘send Lazarus to my father’s house, 28for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also end up in this place of torment.’
But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let your brothers listen to them.’
‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone is sent to them from the dead, they will repent.’
Then Abraham said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

The religious leaders had stationed guards by the garden tomb because Jesus had said He would rise on the 3rd day. Those guards were eye witnesses and they told all those religious leaders what had happened and they still refused to believe and paid off those guards to say no more and to lie, if asked about Jesus Christ rising from the dead.

Their pride had blinded them causing them to reject the Truth, even when they KNEW the Truth. Jesus appearing to them would not have changed anything....they would have still rejected Him.

I know they saw that angel (Matt 28:2-4) but did they see Jesus?

Jesus appearing to them would not have changed anything....they would
have still rejected Him.

They likely would've had Pilate crucify him again, only next time they'd hew
his body in pieces to make absolutely sure he was dead, and to ensure that he
would stay dead.

The Roman soldier pierced His side to make sure Jesus Christ was dead…out of His side flowed blood and water…He was dead.

There was nothing more that could have been done to Jesus Christ that had not already been done…He truly gave us His Life.

After the price was paid in full for us, He was able to take His Life up again…never to die again. Hallelujah!(y)

Jesus' itinerary was micro-managed viz: he didn't come into the world as an
independent agent, instead; he came as a servant.

Phil 2:7-8 . . He made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the
form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in
fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient

John 4:34 . . My food, said Jesus, is to do the will of him who sent me

John 6:38 . . I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but
the will of Him who sent me.

John 8:28 . . I do nothing on my own initiative

John 8:29 . . He that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me
alone; for I do always those things that please Him.

John 14:31 . . I do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

So then, the decision not to show himself alive in Jerusalem wasn't Jesus'
decision to make. And as I assume that everything God directed His son to
do, was done according to intelligence and good judgment, then I believe
there is a valid theological reason why Jesus was a no-show in Jerusalem
after his crucified dead body was restored to life.

I think I've figured out what that reason is but I'm not ready to expose my
thoughts just yet.

His Ressurection was public, one does not go into a city without being noticed.

"
Pliny “the Younger” (so named to distinguish him from his uncle, Pliny the Elder, a famous Roman procurator and author) was appointed governor of Bithynia c. 110-111. While serving, he consulted the emperor Trajan forty-two times in eighteen months, and on one occasion, he asked about how to treat Christians.

It is my rule, Sire, to refer to you in matters where I am uncertain. For who can better direct my hesitation or instruct my ignorance? I was never present at any trial of Christians; therefore I do not know what are the customary penalties or investigations, and what limits are observed. I have hesitated a great deal on the question whether there should be any distinction of ages; whether the weak should have the same treatment as the more robust; whether those who recant should be pardoned, or whether a man who has ever been a Christian should gain nothing by ceasing to be such; whether the name itself, even if innocent of crime, should be punished, or only the crimes attaching to that name.

Meanwhile, this is the course that I have adopted in the case of those brought before me as Christians. I ask them if they are Christians. If they admit it, I repeat the question a second and a third time, threatening capital punishment; if they persist, I sentence them to death. For I do not doubt that, whatever kind of crime it may be to which they have confessed, their pertinacity and inflexible obstinacy should certainly be punished. There were others who displayed a like madness and whom I reserved to be sent to Rome, since they were Roman citizens.

Thereupon the usual result followed; the very fact of my dealing with the question led to a wider spread of the charge, and a great variety of cases were brought before me. An anonymous pamphlet was issued, containing many names. All who denied that they were or had been Christians I considered should be discharged, because they called upon the gods at my dictation and did reverence, with incense and wine, to your image which I had ordered to be brought forward for this purpose, together with the statues of the deities; and especially because they cursed Christ, a thing which, it is said, genuine Christians cannot be induced to do. Others named by the informer first said that they were Christians and then denied it; declaring that they had been but were so no longer, some having recanted three years or more before and one or two as long ago as twenty years. They all worshiped your image and the statues of the gods and cursed Christ. But they declared that the sum of their guilt or error had amounted only to this, that on an appointed day they had been accustomed to meet before daybreak, and to recite a hymn antiphonally to Christ, as to a god, and to bind themselves by an oath not for the commission of any crime but to abstain from theft, robbery, adultery and breach of faith, and not to deny a deposit when it was claimed. After the conclusion of this ceremony it was their custom to depart and meet again to take food; but it was ordinary and harmless food, and they had ceased this practice after my edict in which, in accordance with your orders, I had forbidden secret societies. I thought it the more necessary, therefore, to find out what truth there was in this by applying torture to two maidservants, who were called deaconesses. But I found nothing but a depraved and extravagant superstition, and I therefore postponed my examination and had recourse to you for consultation.

The matter seemed to me to justify my consulting you, especially on account of the number of those imperiled; for many persons of all ages and classes and of both sexes are being put in peril by accusation, and this will go on. The contagion of this superstition has spread not only in the cities, but in the villages and rural districts as well; yet it seems capable of being checked and set right. Ep. X, 96

1 Corinthians 15
King James Version
15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

Matt 23:37-39 . . O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets
and stones God's messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your
children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you
wouldn't let me. And now look, your house is left to you empty and desolate.
For I tell you this, you will never see me again until you say; "Blessed is the one
who comes in the name of The Lord!"

That passage is loaded with goodies; and I'm pretty sure it's best to regard
it as not just Jesus speaking for himself, rather, speaking for God.

John 3:34-35 . .He is sent by God. He speaks God's words, for God's spirit
is upon him without measure or limit.

John 8:26 . .He that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things
which I have heard of Him.

John 12:49 . . I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me,
He gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

John 14:24 . .The word which you hear is not mine, but the Father's who
sent me.

Heb 1:1-2 . . In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the
prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has
spoken to us by His son

So; the first half of Jesus' lament speaks of Old Testament events; the
middle speaks of the Temple, and the last part speaks of Christ's return
when the whole city inside will welcome him instead of only the folks who
welcomed him outside the city per Matt 21:1-10

In a nutshell; Matt 23:37-39 says God would've liked for Jesus to stay and
set up the Messianic kingdom, viz: Jerusalem's association with Him back
then, prior to Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection, had the potential to
become permanent, but instead was cut short. The way Jerusalem went
about eliminating Jesus was not only the last straw, but also the last that city
would see of him for a very long time.

Hos 3:4-5 . . For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince,
without sacrifice or sacred stones, without ephod or idol. Afterward the
Israelites will return and seek The Lord their God and David their king. They
will come trembling to The Lord and to His blessings in the last days.
