Dear Friends, let's study 2 Pet 1:5-11. This passage is speaking about adding goodness, love etc to faith after justification in order to progress in sanctification. What can we learn from this passage? The Apostle describes two types of Justified Christians, he says one are ineffective and unproductive in their faith; of the other, he says, that they confirm their calling and election. And by doing these things (adding goodness and love to faith), they receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Further thoughts on the passage? God Bless. The passage below.

"5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters,[a] make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

It appears to be alluding to a hierarchy of expressed characteristics from a nature. Fruits of faith (works) in a sense.

"According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire." - 1 Cor 3:10-15 KJV

Agreed that the two passages of the two Apostles St. Peter and St. Paul is correlated.

I would say 1 Cor 3:14 applies to to those who follow 2 Pet 1:5-7: "if any man's work abide which he has built thereupon [on the foundation of faith in Christ, from context], he shall receive a reward" is correlated with "make every effort to add to your faith goodness ... love" as seen by verses 10 and 11.

The Apostle tells this Group of Justified Christians that "if you do these things, you will never stumble and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" i.e. the Reward of which 1 Cor 3:14 also speaks.

But of the other group, although they too are truly cleansed from past sins, he says they are ineffective and unproductive in their knowledge of Christ, because they do not add Goodness and Love to their Faith. This goes well with 1 Cor 3:15, the Second Group of Justified Christians about whom St. Paul the Apostle says, they shall suffer loss, because their works were tried in fire and found wanting; they themselves shall be saved, yet only so as by fire. Stark differences here between the Two Groups of Justified Persons.

God Bless.

Sanctification only comes from receiving the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Need to be clear about that, right? As for being "productive," the Holy Spirit dispenses "gifts" as He will to equip believers to accomplish the "purpose" God "purposed" them for. Without the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, and the "gifts" He dispenses, a believer will not be "productive" in the work of the Kingdom.

Yes, of course, that's why I said Post-Justification. At Justification, we are cleansed from past sins, by the Blood of Christ, and receive the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit. St. Peter the Apostle is describing Sanctification Post Justification. What happens if we neglect it or do not.

God Bless.

I think we see there how to enter in but how are we excluded ?

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:19-21‬ ‭

it doesn’t seem as if sin is justified but rather our deeds tell the true story

I'd say this verse fairly well puts the kibosh on the idea of forgiveness of all sins past, present and future. We were cleansed of past sins when we believed in the Lord's atoning work and submitted to immersion in water. After that we have to strive to keep a good conscience, repenting when necessary, and confessing our sins to Him.

This is a truly inspiring post. I keep looking for posts that speaks of obedience as something good, they are rare. Most posts that mention obedience morphs to negative posts about law.

This post encourages us to live for Christ and tells us how.

Philippians 1:21 says, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

God looks at what we do as filthy rags, but we are dead to the flesh—we live through Christ. We act pleasing to the Lord through Christ within.
