Update on the AR-10 upgrade.... I got a 24" barrel, 16.5" free float handguard, adjustable gas block, and have assembled it to that point.
I am working on ways to shave a little weight, so I'm going to change out my Vortex 1-6x scope in favor of a Leupold 1.5-4x .... instead of 24.5 oz for scope and mount, I'm looking at 16 oz....
That will make this about a 10lb rifle. I could change the buttstock and shave another 7 or 8 oz off, which would bring it down to about M1 Garand weight. Not bad for a scoped long range rig....
Where do you live? Is someone shooting at you?

I think that falls under both the "oops" and the "ouch" category. That's odd, it looks like a small caliber rifle... maybe even a rimfire? I didn't know rimfires had enough pizazz to split a barrel...

That is a lot of scope for a rimfire, must be larger. I heard of a situation where a borrowed 270 win. was fed a few 308's, from the story, the barrel didn't blow, but recoil of the 308 squeezing down to pass through was quite stout.

Yes, it is at best unpredictable what will happen with a bore obstruction..... I saw a picture of a Dan Wesson barrel cut down the middle to show 5 or 6 bullets stuck in the bore... I assume they were light, or squib loads, but the barrel didn't blow.

I'm sure that nearly all "kabooms" are operator error.
The load that blew up my stainless revolver was loaded by someone else.... very likely a double charge.
I had been given the reloads, and foolishly trusted them.

I hope you weren't hurto_O
thanks.... not too bad, just sort of bruised/cut my thumb on my support hand.... the way I hold the gun put my thumb beside the cylinder, which blew apart. I've got pics somewhere... it was really exciting for a split second or so...

WASHINGTON, D.C.—A senile old man in Washington who has a deadly nuclear arsenal at his fingertips is calling for dangerous weapons to be taken out of the hands of the mentally unstable.
"Listen, folks, this shouldn't be difficult," said the yammering old geriatric to a duck in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. "The mentally unstable shouldn't have guns! It's dangerous! Think of what could happen, Jack! They could fire it blindly through their front door because they heard a noise, or leave it right out in the open where a Taliban terrorist could pick it up, or accidentally kill innocent people they thought were bad guys but turned out to be foreign aid workers!" The man then dove face-first into the pool because he thought he saw an ice cream cone there.
Many Democrats are warning of chaos and death if mentally unstable people such as themselves ever get their hands on a firearm. "It would be a disaster," said one Democratic strategist. "Think of putting weapons in the hands of people who can't even define what a 'woman' is! I shudder at the thought!
