The question is what does believing entail? Believing in Jesus is much more than mental acceptance. (James 2:19-20) Believing in Christ, means believing His Word, which means accepting and obeying His Word. Hebrews 5:9 expresses this: Jesus became the author of salvation to all those who obey Him. (Heb. 5:9)

In addition, Jesus made a powerful statement that confirms to believe is to obey:

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:" Matt. 21-24

I hear you, yet works-salvationists will erroneously try to "shoe horn" works "into" salvation through believing in Him/faith in Christ, but the shoe does not fit.

They refer to Matthew 7:21–24 like it’s their ace in the hole. I think some of them want to see condemnation for Christians who disagree with their works theology.

I agree,
The calling of God, faith, grace, and salvation are all gifts from God and they are irrevocable.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

1 Corinthians 1:9
God is faithful, by whom you were called into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 11:29
For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

Sadly you mistake genuine concern for condemnation. And, faith perfecting obedience as works theology.

Jesus' statements in Matthew chapter 7 must be considered in light of the fact so many say the only thing necessary for salvation is to believe in Jesus. Those who called Jesus their Lord certainly believed in Him. Yet, Jesus said, I NEVER knew you. Not I knew you at one time, but I NEVER knew you.

When are people joined with Jesus, resulting in their being known of Him, according to the word? It is when they are baptized as seen in Romans 6:4, Col. 2:12, and Gal. 3:27. Those who have been water baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus have been buried with Him into His death. Also, Paul makes a point about what name to use when administering baptism. (1 Cor. 1:13) It is Jesus. Why? Because Jesus was the one crucified for us and with whom we are buried when obedient to the command.

I see a genuine love and concern from you so please understand I’m not referring to you. However I stand by my words that there are a few people here who would probably enjoy seeing people of faith in Christ not have salvation because we don’t share their theology. I’d be happy to name them but don’t want to get in trouble with the moderators and I really don’t feel like arguing with anyone.
