We can definitely change our own paths...whether for the better or for the worse.
For the better would be repentance or moving closer towards God.
For the worse would be to be froward or to be moving away from God.
You know, as in to (toward) or fro (froward).
Anyhow, there are examples of both in the Bible.

We all have choices to make and those choices affect us and those around us. To believe in inescapable destiny is a lazy way of living, because it denies our own responsibility to make beneficial choices.
"But God knows the end from the beginning. But God is in control of the whole world. But God directs our paths. But, but, but..."
The king may rule the nation, but that does not relieve the shopkeeper of helping people he knows. Some things the king has left for us to do... or to not do, as we choose.
