God is Holy. This means He is untouched by Sin.

He has perfect Righteousness., and all who are in Heaven, have the same, or they would not be there.

Now, you have sin. You've sinned all your life. So, the problem is.....HOW do you end up in HEAVEN with HOLY GOD< when you are not Holy?
See that problem?
That's why people went to Hell today. They died never having solved that SIN issue.. that keeps them separated from God, until it is solved.

Now, you can't solve it, as you have sinned, and this problem that you can't solve, ... you need to be SAVED from this issue, this problem of unforgiven SIN.

Enter GOD. ....... John 3:16
He came to give you the righteousness that you dont have.
He came to give it to you as a GIFT. "The Gift of Righteousness".
Here is what He did... He sent Holy Jesus to the Cross, to die for All YOUR SIN. And He did, 2000 yrs ago.
2000 Yrs ago, Jesus died for ALL YOUR SIN....
And he did something more.....He went to the Cross having lived a perfect, holy, and sinless LIFE.
See that LIFE?
That is the "Gift of Salvation"< .........= that is, the Righteousness that God provides to you.......as a GIFT.
God takes your sin, and Jesus dies for them ALL, and God then gives you this LIFE of Christ, that Jesus lived as if you lived it..
See that? That is SALVATION.

How do you get that GIFT applied to you?

You have to give God your Faith, in Jesus, ...understanding that He died for your sin, which makes Jesus your SAVIOR.
And when you give God your faith, knowing that you need Jesus as your Savior, so that you can be given the "Gift of Righteousness", then God will give it to you instantly.. and that means all your sin is now paid for by Jesus.
God will then give you the "new birth" of your Spirit.

Being Born again, is your Spirit.........not your body, or your mind.
You become Born...........again...........as you are already born once......and now you must be born AGAIN.......... Spiritually.
This is what God does for everyone who will come to Jesus and say........"i need you, im a sinner, save me Lord Jesus, i BELIEVE."

"all that call on the name of Jesus, shall be saved".
Jesus said "all that believe in me, i give unto them Eternal LIFE.. and they shall NEVER Perish".

See that? that is placing you Faith in Christ......and God sees this faith inside you, and accepts it to then give you what Jesus has provided for you, on the Cross.

The Gift of Salvation.
The Gift of Righteousness.

Huge problem

That's why people went to Hell today. They died never having solved that SIN issue.. that keeps them separated from God, until it is solved.
The worst tragedy ever. I would rather hear a sermon on this one subject every day than hear pastors rant about how horrible the Democrats are.

Now, you can't solve it, as you have sinned, and this problem that you can't solve, ... you need to be SAVED from this issue, this problem of unforgiven SIN.
Yes, daily repentance is required to walk closely with God.

Being Born again, is your Spirit.........not your body, or your mind.
You become Born...........again...........as you are already born once......and now you must be born AGAIN.......... Spiritually.
Praise God that many of us here had the opportunity to hear the Gospel and be moved by it enough to be born again through the moving of the Holy Spirit.

Excellent piece of expository writing. Blessings to you.

I believe we should be doing our best to tell people this kind of thing every chance we get.

Growing up in Dallas, Texas, the buckle of the bible belt USA and I never heard it until I was 18 and in jail and read a Gospel tract someone left in the jail.

I created a flyer to advertise our church services and ministries. I wrote the following and put it on the back and I pass these out to every house in the surrounding neighborhoods once a month. Or that is the goal. Even if they read it and throw it away I am praying a seed is planted:

Jesus Is Alive Right Now!

We have all sinned and because of that we were separated from the Creator who is sinless and holy.

Unless God did something we would all be destined to eternal separation from God and the place called hell.

So instead of just leaving us all in a state of eternal hopelessness, God loved us so much that 2000 years ago He sent His only son Jesus Christ to become a man by being born of a virgin, live a holy and sinless life, do many miracles to prove He was divine, and to teach us about who and what God our Father was like and what He expects of us.

Then Jesus allowed wicked men to crucify him on a cross so that He could pay for the punishment we deserved for our own personal sins.

Jesus never sinned therefore he qualified to be accepted by His Holy Father as the sacrifice for our sins.

Jesus was killed on the cross and buried in a tomb. But because Jesus had never sinned, death could not hold him, and three days later he arose from the dead and Jesus is ALIVE RIGHT NOW!

The Bible says that if you believe that Jesus did that for you and if you repent of your sins, (which means make a choice to turn away from them and follow Jesus Christ and His teachings), that you will be saved from the future judgment that is coming upon the world because of sin.

The Bible says that Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit will come into you and live inside you and that you will be given Eternal Life.

The Bible says that you will be given a new heart and a new spirit and calls it being born again.

You will soon discover that you feel and think differently and that you love God and hate sin. You will have a love for others like never before. You will experience so much joy, like you have finally found your purpose in life.

Pray this right now: “Father in Heaven. I believe that you sent your Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins. I believe that He rose from the dead and that Jesus is Alive Right Now Today! I repent of all my sins and I turn my life over to you God, and I want to Follow Jesus and obey His teachings from this day forward. I believe that the Blood of Jesus washes away my sins. I believe that the Holy Spirit comes into me today to help me live a holy life. I believe I have eternal life by faith in Jesus Christ. Amen.”

While I agree that our earthly bodies are not "born again/new," our hearts and minds are. A change of heart through salvation must needs be as well a change of mind. That being how we view ourselves and the world. As we begin our life walk with Jesus, our minds and hearts must be focused on Him.

This is all well and good as a suggestion; however, there are NO SPECIFIC words that must be prayed to receive salvaiton/forgiveness. As long as folks understand this. The idea of there being a "sinners prayer" whose words are required to recite is NOT Biblical Truth.

just saying......

I agree. I don't call it "the sinners prayer." That isn't something I have ever said.

If I am with someone talking there is any number of ways the conversation can go. Inviting them to make a decision and pray may or may not happen. If it does, and the Spirit leads me to help them I will come up with the words that they might find helpful at that time.

I have never used those exact words in that order on that flyer before. I came up with it when I wrote it. Not from a list of "prayers" I have saved.

When passing out literature, I will give people an example of words to take to the Lord in faith, and imagine them getting in some private room in their house, getting on their knees and slowly praying the words thinking about what they are saying. Would the words inspire faith while they were praying them? Would the words I put on the flyer cause understanding when they read them? Can I imagine them smiling / or crying when they spoke them to God believing that they are true?

And if they don't pray them but they read them and then threw the paper away, are the words of the prayer such that they have the potential to come back to their minds if later they are in a crisis and start thinking about their need to repent and do "what that flyer they got on their door said."

I also am a strong advocate of giving invitations to come forward and make decisions and respond to sermons in church.

Agreed.

The one prayer given us was given by Jesus Himself. Commonly refered to as The Lords Prayer. That, however, is not for sinners (IMO) but for the saved to pray........

Salvation comes by professing ----Speaking with your mouth ----your faith in Jesus Christ who he is --that He died on the Cross and Rose from the dead -----

Your faith will always require a positive response -----you will speak out what you believe ------

Your heart and mouth are connected ----

There are two different kinds of faith within a born again child of God, 1 - faith in man (the fleshly man), and 2 - spiritual faith which is a fruit of the Holy Spirit which is given to man by God's grace in the new birth. The un-regenerant only has the one faith, which is faith in mankind. The un-regenerant cannot believe in spiritual things until he is born again and cannot recognize himself as disobeying a spiritual law of a spiritual God (1 Cor 2:14). All that believe in Jesus he gives unto them eternal life which does not include the un-regenerant.

Yes, and I am of the opinion that it was an example showing the heart of prayer not that they were to use it as a liturgy and quote it verbatim thinking they can't change it up to apply the principles in their own words and expressions. Jesus was not trying to give them another canned prayer like their rabbis did. He was trying to teach them about Spirit and Truth praying but so many through church history have used it as if it were a magic spell repeating it over and over very fast while rubbing beads. So antithetical to what Jesus was trying to teach them. Sort of like head coverings if you think about it.

I totally disagree with you here -----The Lords prayer was only a sample Jesus gave to His Disciples on how to Pray ------the Lords Prayer is for sinners not the Saved -------but even sinners unless they first repent will not have there sins forgiven ---so it doesn't do them much good unless repentance comes first ----

A born again person has all sins forgiven by God ---the Lords prayer says------Forgive us our sins ----well your sins are already forgiven ----you have to believe that to be saved -----so why would a Saved person pray for God to forgive their sins -----your actually slapping God in the face by asking Him to re forgive your sins and your disbelieving that the Blood of Jesus was not effective to forgive your sins -----

Also ---deliver us from evil also has been done -----Jesus defeated Satan on the Cross so again asking for deliverance from Satan is again not trusting that Jesus accomplished this for us on the Cross -----

There is nothing wrong with the Lords Prayer -----it was given as Jesus had not died yet and sacrifices were still in effect at that time to forgive sins ---so the Prayer was appropriate for praying at that time -----

Salvation gives us freedom from sin and freedom from Satan's attacks as long as we submit to God ------

Scripture says Submit yourselves to God and the devil will flee from you ------

So for me anyway ---saying the Lords Prayer today is not necessary -----people need to be mindful as to what they are asking from God when they pray the Lords Prayer -----

the Lords Prayer is a repetitive prayer and many who repeat it do it so often it becomes meaningless words and looses it real meaning -----they are just repeating words ------

God says this ----

AMP
“And when you pray, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

I think romans 10 says it well

8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

This and looking at the tax collector

you do not have to say some repetative sinners prayer to be saved. But you do need to call out

Jesus showed us how to pray, not what to say.
amen “ after this manner then pray ye”

our father , thy kingdom , forgive us as we forgive others , lead us not into temptations but rather deliver us from evil.
