A pastor friend of this writer has written the following: “There are professing
Christians who religiously practice the washing of feet. Are they Scriptural or
unscriptural?

There are some who anoint the sick with oil, while others use blessed
handkerchiefs. Are they Scriptural or unscriptural? Still others tarry for The
Holy Spirit after they have received Christ for salvation. Some professing
Christians claim to have visions and angelic visitations while hearing
supernatural voices. Are they Scriptural or unscriptural?

Thousands of others break forth in some kind of speech which they call the
gift of tongues. Is it Scriptural or unscriptural to speak in tongues?”

To which we add: Scriptures can be found to substantiate all of these
actions. However, it seems to us that it is less than intellectual honesty,
much less a spiritual practice, to arbitrarily select certain Bible commands
for obedience while completely disregarding others. Why not obey the
mandates in Numbers_15:32-36 and Deuteronomy_21:18-21 where
infractions were to be punished by publicly stoning the offender to death?

Why not build a tabernacle and offer sacrifices as God commanded in
Exodus_25-31? Why not “sell that ye have and give alms” as Christ
instructed in Luke_12:33? In short, why obey certain Bible commands
and ignore others? Why not obey them all?...

ah more hyper-dispie propaganda.

to answer the ridicilous question posed by W Johnson of why not build a tabernacle and offer sacrifices and stone people:

we dont stone people because thats not the law of the land, you could never just stone people to death if you saw someone do something, it had to be a decision by the beit din, court, or in some cases, Moses the man himself.
im all for bringing it back though, lets clean up the streets. any takers?

why not build a tabernacle? because the book of hebrews has been written. same for sacrifices. Jesus sacrifice nullified those sacrifices as the book of hebrews says, they were a shadow of things to come. everyone knows this. stop using this argument dispies.

now why dont you listen to paul when he says there are prophets in the churches. the gentile churches yes. why dont you follow paul as he got water baptized? hmm. sounds like intellectual dishonesty, why do you pick and choose what parts of the pauline epistles you follow?

the Gifts of the Holy Spirit come directly from the Holy Spirit. They are not a set of rules, commandments, suggestions, but Gifts. no one has every Gift but everyone has the potential to have at least one Gift necessary to the Body of Christ. so as some may whine and cry foul, the Holy Spirit is not held to man's reasoning, nor controlled by anyone who opposes the Holy Spirit and Gifts. i don't even have the Gift of Healing but i read in the Bible if you have Faith, which God has given to all of us, you are able to follow what you read, believe it is true, and in the Name of Jesus people can be healed.

what i do find strikingly odd, you, thread creator, will believe that our Salvation is a Gift of Grace (Paul's Teachings), but you will refuse the Holy Spirit's Gifts (Paul's Teachings). hmmm, what is that called again?

Perhaps a form of godliness that lacks the power?

And that is why Christians must allow other Christians to have the liberty to follow certain Scriptures even though we may not necessarily agree. As long as the true Gospel and sound Bible doctrine is also prevalent.

No christian would appose ALL the gifts of the Spirit.

Faith, hope and love remain for most people who believe the gifts fulfilled there purpose. And faith hope and love are gifts of the Holy Spirit.

There are also partial cessationists who have only the sign gifts ceasing. They still have the ministry gifts with faith hope and love.

On both ... it is primarily the sign gifts that have done their job.. not all gifts
