Despite all my efforts over the years to eat healthy and stay active I think good ol' menopause has bitten me in the butt. I have never gotten my extra weight off since I had a child 19 years ago. Right before I got pregnant I was very close to a normal weight and since then I've tried almost every diet under the sun. With NO success. My favorite doable diet has been more balanced, but with portion control, like "itrackbites" because I was tired of throwing my money away on Weight Watchers.
I've already eliminated gluten 10 years ago because it started making me sick and even gave me diarrhea if I had too much. I try to "eat the rainbow" of fruits and veggies in season, take collagen in a blueberry smoothie to replace one meal a day (breakfast or lunch), added several supplements, I could go on, but won't bore you with more details, but you get the picture. I've also suffered from hypothyroidism since my EARLY 20's, not 40's like most women (because of Lithium a doctor told me)

But since post menopause for 2 years my health has declined quickly and significantly. I'm pre-diabetic, have high blood pressure, SIBO, cataracts are starting already in my eyes and I'm only 51!! So as a last ditch effort I've decided to try Intermittent Fasting to lose weight and get my insulin working correctly, etc. Last year I tried, but unsuccessfully. For husband it was totally easy since he likes to skip breakfast anyway. He lost a lot of weight too. We brisk walk almost every day together too. (5-6 days a week)

Has anyone here tried IF? I also heard for someone with my health issues and age I need to be SUPER extreme about it. Like 20:4 with one meal and/or stop eating in the afternoon like 2-3pm and not eat dinner with my family. I guess it's gotta be this way if I'm really serious this time because my body feels so screwed up right now!!!

Lots of people have great testimonies' about weight loss , and that Keto has helped many with other diseases...
I have been eating Keto for about a year as I was over weight , plus type 2 diabetic...I have lost a stone and a half , and my blood sugars are now pre-diabetic...

Also , Dr Jason Fung has loads about IF for people who are over weight...It all comes down to Carbs , high carbs , they turn into sugar , and sugar turns into fat...

Maybe you can check out these channels , and you will be encouraged , because many are in the same boat as yourself...

Yes, I do intermittent fasting by skipping breakfast and by not eating late. It is all about discipline. After you skip breakfast for awhile, you don't get hungry until lunch. I do eat breakfast on occasion as a treat. If you like breakfast foods, you can always eat those items for lunch or dinner.

Has anyone here tried IF? I also heard for someone with my health issues and age I need to be SUPER extreme about it. Like 20:4 with one meal and/or stop eating in the afternoon like 2-3pm and not eat dinner with my family. I guess it's gotta be this way if I'm really serious this time because my body feels so screwed up right now!!!

I am into intermittent fasting and started trying it since I checked my BMI and found that I’m slightly overweight. I am 5ft 8in tall and about 85kg but because most of my weight is around my hip and button, I did not know that I am considered overweight. So I decided to try intermittent fasting and a low carb diet but not quite Keto.
The intermittent fasting works great and I am getting even better at it now. Initially, I skipped breakfast and ate my first meal at around 1400hrs but now I do my own version of bulletproof coffee in the morning around 1000hrs. I have now replaced lunch with a cup of herbal tea and I try to drink a lot of electrolytes as well. I also try to walk a lot more now and I not only feel healthier, I am losing weight gradually as well.
You should start slowly and your body will get use to it and then you will start to see it making a difference.

Well Done Rosemaryx! I watch and subscribe to a lot of those docs on YouTube including Dr Berg, Dr Ekberg and also ‘Beat Diabetes’. I have not been diagnosed with pre diabetes or diabetes but my mum is diabetic and having learned so much about insulin resistance, I felt the need to take some preventative actions.
I’m not quite disciplined but I’m getting there. It’s kind of challenging with work and other commitments but I’m hoping my determination will help take my efforts to the next level.

I started watching Ken Berry's videos. A lot of it makes sense. I tried Keto last year, but I failed to stay on it. The main reason is Ken's first step: Remove ALL sugar products/grains from your house. Well, well, well, in a perfect world that would happen, but not with the people I live with. (husband and daughter) There is NO way my super-stubborn husband would EVER let that happen. Every time I want to remove foods he always says, "We live here too and we aren't on a diet!!" I need to have the willpower of superwoman to do diets like this because all that crap has to remain in my house. It's just the way it is. I'm bound to fail when there are so many food temptations around! Either that or an immense supernatural intervention/miracle from God will keep me from giving in to all the things my family enjoys and eats in front of me on a daily basis.

I guess I could start praying for the strength to not give in! Maybe I can start there because GF crackers, cereal, ice cream, chips, GF cookies, etc will always be staring me in the face. In our dedicated GF kitchen (no cross-contamination) my husband already complains sometimes how "everything" in the house is gluten free and hates GF bread, so he gets fast food, sub sandwiches, or donuts sometimes to get more normal food for himself. He's gonna love me trying keto again! not. lol

That’s pretty much the story of the majority of us who have attempted ‘keto’ and had to keep making adjustments just to stay on point with it. This is the precise reason I call my present diet routine ‘low carb’.I have some almond flour that has been lying around for a few weeks but I have not managed to do anything with it.
You’re right to consider a new approach and with determination, something is going to finally click. Everyone’s journey is different, so no matter the advice or experience received, what works for you will be unique to you.
Keep trying! The lord is with you!

I use Almond flour too...
I make a lovely low carb mug cake that uses butter , egg , baking powder , my sweetener and the Almond flour...I also add my spices like nutmeg , ginger etc...It is great for curbing that sweet tooth of mine...
It takes 1 min 30 secs in microwave , and I have a little heavy cream with it...

You are preaching to the choir! My sweet tooth has been the nemesis to my weight loss efforts. And those spices, they just make all the difference. I even spice my :coffee: with cinnamon, most of the time. I should use your ingredients to make myself a keto delight one of these days. Thanks for that!

I remember when that first came out several years ago. I was all into it, but it only works if the rest of your day is low carb. If not, it doesn't really work. At least, not for me. (I think at the time I was only half into the paleo/keto lifestyle then anyway.) I should try that again. My normal routine is a whole lemon in hot water, then black coffee, then breakfast as long as I can wait, not exactly IF, but more like 10 or 11 hours of fasting instead. Do you put grass-fed butter in your coffee with coconut oil/mct oil or just the butter by itself? I usually have a second cup and maybe I can make that my breakfast instead of drinking it black like the first one. I also like to drink coffee in the afternoon and put Laird Superfood creamer in it with a little Monkfruit sweeter. The Laird brand is basically just powdered form of MCT oil.

I fast from 7.pm until when I have my coffee , then fast without eating until about 1/2 pm...My body has now adapted to really eating one meal a day because the butter in my coffee keeps me full...But IF for obesity is a lot more stricter , I am manly doing my 12 hour fast for my blood sugars , then do a four hour fast in the afternoon until I eat my last morsel before 7.pm...

I often don't eat until well after noon, also :) But I always have coffee first thing :D Some days, that 5 a.m. :geek:

I'm trying to lose weight as well. I'm sorry for what you're going through. The limiting gluten usually works- that's crazy. If it's hormones are there enzymes or something you could take?

3. Watch your intake of fruits. Fruit is sugar. Healthy, but doesn't make you lose weight.

Yes, I FINALLY got to talk to a nutritionist through my provider after taking both a diabetes and pre-diabetes class, but I already eat that way (it was like preaching to choir already!) "Make your plate thing" suggested from the government website: Half plate veggies, one fruit, one dairy, qtr starch like rice, qtr protein. I also have been replacing one meal a day with a blueberry/high protein smoothie. So....She told me I basically need to move more. More activity. If i'm being honest, I was only walking around 3 days a week. So recently I've been using my elliptical for 45 min a day about 5 days a week. And I gained another pound. ugh. Yes, Weight Watchers in the past has told me that once you increase your activity you could gain a little. So i'm not super discouraged about it....yet.

It's honestly so confusing and everyone says something different even as professionals.

They say muscle weighs more than fat so that's why you can sometimes gain at first. But that still doesn't make sense to me bc you're watching what you eat too. It should be burning a lot of calories.

Maybe get a fitness coach? Not sure the cost that but at least you can get an idea what is happening.
