Can one go to hell and then later be found in the book of life?

This came up in a random thread one day and I think it’s very interesting. So let me share with you what it is.

Revelation 20:11-15 KJV
11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

So here’s the thing. They dead were resurrected from the sea, death, and hell to be judged according to their works. Whoever was not found in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Why are people being brought from hell to see if they are in the book of life or not? Is this suggesting it’s possible to go to hell and then still be in the book of life?

The current Hell is only a holding place for those without Christ. Ultimate judgement on the soul comes when Christ returns. Then everyone will be judged. Those in Hell will be cast into the Lake of Fire for eternal judgment.

So no, once you are in Hell, you have lost all the chances to be saved.

It is not enough for God to be right. He must also appear right. The judgement is for His righteousness (Christ Jesus) to be seen as the de facto standard for all men. It is against His standard that all men will be judged.

No one is in Hell, (Gehenna, the lake of fire) now.

The unsaved are in Sheol/Hades, which is rendered as the word "hell" in many Bibles. That is the holding place of the dead. They will be raised and judged coming from Sheol/Hades for judgement and THEN cast into the LOF.

Spiritually, we all start off in the same place. Dead. We need Christ to give us Life.


Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
